    Question Which radar...?current (RMR DLS340)

Hey guys, im new here and this is my first post. I've recently became a big fan of RD's when my crappy one that i bought for $100 CAD saved my ass from getting my license suspended

i'm from ontario and they just passed a law that if you have your G2 and your caught speeding (5 -10km/h over and up I think) you can have your license suspened for up to 30 days. Meaning i would be out of a job due to the fact that my work is a 45-50 minute commute, with no bus's heading in that direction...gotta love the country side lol

ANYWAYS enough of that I was wondering what kind of gear i should pick up - I heard alot about the driver STI and it being 100% invisible but is this true? I also heard that the OPP are using something better then the spectre 4 at the moment so...(i think its a lie tho) because I dont want to spend 500-600 dollars and get caught - have it taken away and be screwed but I also hear lots of good things about valentine 1's..which should I choose.

I currently am using a RMR DLS340. I bought it from kijiji before I knew much about RD's turns out this thing sucks but atleast it saved my ass from being caught doing 30 KM/H over. I wast sure on what I should purchase but the only problem is if i buy it online I wont be able 2 have it shipped into the province. So thats where it becomes difficult, I think you can get V1's here but im not to sure.

also kinda off topic I was also interested in police scanners - Which of them is good, I want something small and conceal able so if I ever do get pulled over I could stash it away. Im looking for a good brand name thats trustable and reliable -- I need to pick up OPP and Police frequencys through GTA and Durham Region -- not sure if OPP is encrypted so...anyways I need something reliable any suggestions?
Also I will buy/make antenna's for it but i'll mount them within my car probably along the inside of the windshield to avoid having a bulky antenna sticking off the roof - anyone know how to build one? Would be much appreciated thanks.

If caught by police the fine can be around $150-$200 for possessing a RD in ontario - If its a major highway that they catch you on it can go up to around $1000 from what i've heard

Not sure about laws on scanners, anyone have any info on them for ontario?

    ~Thanks Sovereign~

Hmmm... This troubles me. You know what the spectre is and your friend did too but say that they have came out with a new one.

Which actually troubles me quite a bit, because in Canada they were testing this new RDD but said its not cost efficent so they arnt in use. But after seeing this Im not sure.

I wonder if they have to submit or get approval of such a device that can be looked up by calling or on the internet to see if this is in fact true.

I would most deffinatly suggest the STI-R radar detector, remote mounted so extra stealthy and since you live in the country side feel that it would be best suited in case their using I/O.

Alpine and NMA will get in here in a few and will comment on this. I will contact them now.

Yea the only reason I knew about the new RDD was because my friend has a uncle who is a higher up in a district of Durham regional police...and seeings how these laws are getting more strict in ontario - because of the drunk drivers who manage to go the wrong way on the highways and the inner city street racers who like to park their cars in peoples houses or in other peoples cars - I think that its possible now that u mentioned the new RDD testing. my purpose of it is to watch my back so i dont get a ticket/licenes suspended. These laws are riduclous though...they made me resort to buying radar - and now that I did Im gunna turn my car into a god damn awacs lol that'll show the coppers

the cloest STI-R is going for $1500 - cash is kinda tight at the moment but I could always sell a bunch of **** lol

Also HOW stealthy are they? like say the did find me with their RDD and pulled me over then what?

Here they can search the car without a warrant if they suspect you of having a RD...bastards...but fortnatley I have a hiding spot that I can stash my current GPS in that I think NO cop would ever look - very well hidden but you never know...

Part of the reason I want a Scanner is because I want to also use it for highway travelling so I can track cops - plus my cousins a medic and says he hears some funny things said....also some disturbing things for example

there was an accident where i guy was nailed by a transport truck doing around 100km/h - parts of him everywhere - 1 medic found hs left arm and over the radio they heard "Timex, takes a lickin' but keeps on tickin'!" referring to the mans watch. Now depending on ur sense of humour that can be precieved as funny disturbing, sick or all the above.

Would also be nice to tell when police are comming to break up parties...RUNN!! heh

Anyways if this new RDD is out..then I dont know what to do then...I did find 1 thing out tho - theres UC's in Whitby ontario driving around in "civilian" cars with spectre 3 or 4's not sure what i seen but it was in a beige lumina - no hub caps - normal police car wheels...dumbass had his uniform on so it wasnt really a UC in my opinion heh

100% stealth. The reason its even more stealthier than the regular STI is that its Remote mounted so if you did get pulled they probably won't find it. The antenna gets installed somewhere in the front bumper. The reason I'd suggest the STI-R is that it has excellent detection. Their brand new 1100 so its a little less than the 1500 you were describing.

BTW, what kind of car do you have?

First off you need laser protection because I know that canada uses it and quite a bit.

Im thinking of suggesting the 9500ci which 2x as good as the STI-R. They have the same performance but the 9500ci has GPS built in that makes it have a ton more features. Red light cameras, speed cameras, updates at your house (which is key for you considering that you would have to ship the sti in and worry about customs again on the way back), **False alert lock outs* if you have pharmacy's or shopping centers around your area with Automatic door openers then their going to drive you crazy because they use radar too and radar detectors alert to them too.

And most of all the 9500ci has a 3 head laser jamming system that is not a good jammer but if you have the right car it can do alright. Erick in Houston used the Zr3 for a long time on his corvette with numerous saves.

I think the 9500ci would be best suited for you and thats 1600 dollars, and the STI-R would be my second choice. But the fact that laser is in canada, you have to deal with customs, and you probably have RLC's (Red light cameras), Speed Cameras, Shopping centers with Automatic door openers, etc I would suggest the 9500ci would be the best bet. Thats 1600 but is way ahead of its time and you will deffinatly like it.

Not sure if they passed the suspension law for speeding under 18 year olds in Ontario yet. I know there was a lot of resistance over it. Right now the most cost effective unit for you is a regular STi. The STi-R is expensive at $1000 and the 9500ci is even more pricey. Lots of people using the visor mounted STi in Ontario and we haven't heard of anyone being caught with one yet, and it also has laser detection, though a jammer is the best bet.

One thing's for sure, you need to get rid of that RMR or you will definitely get caught by the Spectre III cops in Durham and Peel. Also, don't be fooled, there are a lot of rumors about new Spectres, or new RDDs that catch the STi. It is nonsense. The STi emits no signal therefore it cannot be detected.

Meanwhile, you're a young lad and I encourage you to drive responsibly. RDs are only part of the equation. If you're more than 20mph over all the time you're going to get caught no matter what.

Im driving a black family sedan heh good ol' grandma car....blends in well tho so what do u suggest? road trip to the states and find a place to wire up the 9500ci? is that undetectable aswell? like 100%? and laser jammers...been sketchy bout those wouldnt that alert the cops like "wtf i cant get a speed reading" pull me over and find the jammers then what? im screwed heh i dunno unless they hide well

sorry for double post but yea, i respect that last part, I dont take part in street racing nor do I drive recklessly, i just think the gov went overboard and im gunna need to step it up a notch and play a bit of electronic warefare with the cops because last thing I need is to lose my licenses - i live near lindsay work in whitby and go to school in oshawa....totals around 5k km / month including leisure and recreation....so gas makes my wallet/bank sad....lol

and in city's/town I do around 10-15 over the limit MAX, dont wanna stand out like a soar thumb....out on 80 zones i dont go more then 40 over - only when im in a hurry tho...otherwise my car eats my gas like nothing

and yea i gotta be like right up close for my RMR to pick up anything so im in need of an upgrade...

im using RD as more of an insurance measure - plus it will make me focus MUCH more on the road...I dont tend to speed alot anyhow dont expect to see me in a wreck tho - drive my car responsibly...i had to pay for it and insurance/maintanance and fuel on my own....4k for car 3.5k/yr insurance and lots of cash in gas - I treat the thing like its my baby - cant lose it heh

ON A SIDE NOTE: realize in canada we use km/h not mp/h so everything I said was all in km/h format, its a habbit. (incase anyone forgot )

Hey man i live in the GTA and trust me there is no new RDD going on most if not all still use Spectre 3. I run a Bel STi and i have been parked right beside an OPP officer and i was looking at his spectre unti and nothing was happening. I think Your only choices in ontario would be the STi/STi-R/9500ci. You said that money was tight so i think the STi would be your best bet. If you want to message me i can let you know where to pick one up in the gta also give you a few hints on how to avoid some tickets.

PM me with any question kool

Honestly that would be great. Funny how you sat beside an OPP with a spectre and nothing happened, u have it mounted under visor? cuz i gotta plan when i get mine - gotta modify my car a little heh
Wonder how many each division/station has, spectres that is theres no way that they have every cruiser rigged with em

Still looking for a moderate - great scanner but im gunna need to hide the antenna's, i dont feel like placing a big 2-3 foot tall antenna on my car possibly...something stealthy, maybe wired up in and around my car?

and with a bit of luck maybe brandon could solve my problem finding a STI hehe

Anyways About the STI - how much range do you have on it - lets say moderatley hilly countryside like 2-3km or miles? I heard these things are pretty beast lol
