    Default Bell STi-R or 9500ix?

I got rid of my V1 in the truck today, one of my co-workers got a speeding ticket yesterday and had been talking to me for weeks about what detector to get. Being Christmas and having children, he did not have the extra $ to afford a detector right now, so I gave him the V1 to keep him from getting another ticket before he saved up the $ for a detector of his own.

I had been contemplating getting the 9500ix anyway, because I love how quiet the 9500ci is with the GPS features. I love the ci so much because of it great sensativity though I have to wonder should I just get the STi-R instead? My only concern since I spend half my time in the Atlanta metro area and half in rural interstate highway traveling, would the STi-R's increased sensativity be as bad or worse than the V1? How good is the false filtering onthe STi-R when in city modes?

Just run your 9500ci for a few days with the GPS disabled. You'll know what it's like to run an STi-R. Then decide from there. It'll be worse than your V1, guaranteed. My first couple of days with my 9500ci were obnoxious. samq45 runs both his STi and his STi-R at the same time. I think he only has the 34.7 block enabled on his STi-R and has everything else turned off, because it's too noisy. He lets his STi handle all the rest of the bands. I think that's his setup. Maybe he'll see this and respond.

That's kind of what I figured, I was just hoping their filtering might make it tolerable in city mode.

Somebody a while back commented on this and I thought it was memtek. (DJ, you forgot that ci doesnt have agressive filtering like the sti-r does)

But they said city on the sti-r is like highway on the regular STI which is tolarable as I always have highway on unless actually in a insane ADO area. If this is actually true then its worth it.

If you speed in the truck like at 10+ mph I wouldn't suggest the 9500ix as the performance sucks (i feel, along with the reg sti) but regular daily non excessive speed driving its a good choice.

I asked the same question about city filtering. The StiR def. has K band filitering, so it has to be better than the V1 for this reason. I am saying this because the V1 goes nuts and finds falses you never knew were there with the Bel/Escorts. The Bels have better filtering overall, most of the reg units do not filter K at all and go off quite a bit near door openers, but the X filitering on the bels is very good even in autoscan mode.

I'm leaning towards the STi-R, just because the performance of the 9500ci is so much better than anything else I have seen. I also like the fact that it will be a remote mount and not on the windshield.

I'm off until after the 1st, so I have a few days to think it over before I have to make a decision. Thanks everyone for your input, I was really hoping to hear from someone that was actually running the STi-R.

Maybe you could PM samq45 and/or RacerX. Both of them run/ran STi-Rs.

I recall distinctly two STi-R users saying that the STi-R is way too noisy and that city mode didn't help much.

This I'm sure is not true. One user on here completely shut off everything but Ka band on his STi-R and is using his STi for K band. If the STi-R in city mode was as quiet as the STi in highway mode, then I doubt this person would use two RDs, when one would suffice.

The 9500ix is an excellent RD. My 9500ix is right behind my V1 on sensitivity, especially on Ka band. I'd say that only the V1 and the Belscort remotes are more sensitive than the 9500ix. It's performance hardly sucks.

Yeah I heard that several times too, and realisticly its not useable unless what I heard was true.

Yeah its just what I thought I remember somebody saying, not saying its true but I could have sworn somebody said this. But your probably right, as nobody has come up and said it yet.

ehh.. The 9500ix is going to yield a little better performnace than my STI and my STI imo is still not good enough for my area. I mean its given me probably 150 saves with around 20 I/O attacks that I did not recieve the alert until I was on top of him. Their great detectors don't get me wrong and have great performance, you can't get much better but are still not enough to compete with the guns to day and how LE is using them. So i really should have said, the performance is awsome but still thats not enough to compete with LE. I can see maybe 1 or 2 times out of that 150-170 LE alerts me missing it but not 20.

And I've heard many people saying that the 9500ix hasn't alerted to I/O until the cop was on top of them. But its not that the performance sucks, because its close to the best your going to get for a handheld but that the guns used and how LE uses them the 9500ix still doesn't have enough performance to be adequate protection for me. (And btw, Im a 10 mph on back road, 15+ highway, 25+ interstate driver so I and you (I know you speed around that range too) are a little different than most people and its harder for our detectors to give us perfect detection.

Category, IMHO I would most deffinatly save up for the 9500ci for your truck. I personally feel that you would truly like it better than the STI. The STI-R is not practical and the 9500ix is just not enough IMHO today nor for the future and the 9500ci will be your best bet!

I know Im going to get greef for saying the 9500ix isn't enough but truly it isn't, interstate driving sure, but where I live where even the highways are often times rural and many encounters are going to be around the curve/off-axis no handheld gives you suffecient protection. Great points dj, thanks
