Default STI - R vs Winter

    Hello Everyone,

I've been browsing the forums and can't seem to find information on dealing with winter.

I live in Toronto and I want to get a BEL STI-r as well as a Laser Pro Park. Has anyone experienced the performance of both these devices in the winter? I would assume that they are prone to losing some performance b/c of the snow buildup and cold, but what can be said about the durability of these devices? Would it be reccommended that I remove the remote sensor and LPP when winter comes around and re-install it in the summer? (I have never been pulled over for speeding in the snow).

As well, I assume that the STI-r is still undetectable. Can someone confirm this for me?

    Thank you in advance.

The StiR is spectre proof. As for durability, I have read many users from colder climates not have any issues with the unit so far. As for the LPP, I know the one of the main distributors is out of canada, so I think that says something about its reliability, just performance on certain guns still remains an issue.

Since I live in SoCal, where we have no winter, I can't help you on that front, but I can tell you that I haven't heard of anyone having any problems due to winter weather.

There are three RDs that are proven to be Spectre proof and they are the Bel STi($500), Bel STi-R($1100) and the Escort 9500ci($1600).

As far as the LPP goes, I can no longer endorse this product. This company has been extremely slow to respond to the latest product release, the LTI TruSpeed, leaving many unprotected against this new threat. With another new release on the horizon, the long-rumored Kustom Pro Laser IV, I have serious doubts as to how long it will take for LPP to react after seeing their seeming non-interest in the newest LTI product. I'd highly recommend an LI over an LPP for approximately the same cost.

I have had no problems with either due to the weather and my STi-R is mounted low and in the open. Lots of salt, sand and little rocks and it is holding up well. Same with the LPPs - no issue due to weather and this is the third winter. Biggest problem has been snow accumulation on the heads which cause the parking alert.

However I agree with DJ and others here. You would be better served looking at something else as it does not work with the new LTI and there is another gun that is supposed to hit the market shortly. It may be possible it will not work against that gun either. Even if they provide a fix for the LTI, who knows how long it might take to get updates for another new gun.

Don't sweat the Truspeed issue in Toronto.

Metro Toronto cops use Lti Ultralytes and older Laser Atlantas (no jam codes) for Lidar and 33.8 MPH guns for radar.

OPP use K band extensively (amd a very few 35.5) for radar, and have mostly Ultralytes, some older Lti 20/20's and a few new Laser Atlantas.

I was referring to the Kustom PLIV rumors.
