    Default STI Driver hardwire

I just got a new STI Driver a month ago, and i'm already tired of cord hanging from my RD to the jack. It looks like sh!t and it's too obvious. So what i came up with is to wire it to my Rear view mirror, and keep it on the left sie of the mirror.

    Here is the problem.

This is a plug from my mirror. I guessed on what the ground is, and i checked current from ground to avery other wire. There are two wires that seem to have power. One is the big thick white wire, and the other is just a little pink wire. I think the ticker white one is the main power. I couldn't check the voltage drop because i didn't have a load to check it accross, but i did check the current (16A - supprised i didn't burn something out doing that)

I don't want to return the current through the ground, so i was wondering, How do i find out what is the common wire.

The second option and probably little easyer is to wire it to the sunroof. Problem is if i rip that cover off with the cabin lights and sunroof switch, i don't know if i'll break the clips - then i'm in reall trouble.

The car in question is Buick Allure.
    Thanks for your help

With your multimeter, find out what wire is ground. If you have continuity when you put a lead on the taped wire and the other lead on the body, then it's ok to use. You need power and ground for the voltage and current to flow.

Exactly. First find a wire that registers 0 volts using a voltmeter when you have the red voltmeter lead connected to that wire and the black voltmeter lead connected to chassis ground. Next, switch your voltmeter to resistance and check that the resistance is no more than 1 ohm or so. These two checks, done in this order, together confirm that the wire is indeed a ground wire.

Now to find a +12V wire...

Since you have now located your ground wire, it is just a simple matter of connecting the black voltmeter lead to that ground wire and then using the red voltmeter lead to find a wire which registers +12V on the voltmeter. If you find more than one wire which registers +12V, use the thicker wire as your +12V source to power the radar detector.

Now I just have to remember to shut it off every time I leave my car. I don't think the voltage spikes, when I start the car are going to make the RD last too long.

    Thanks for your help guys.

Next thing on my list is VAIL and some type of license plate covers that will help with laser and photo radars. Then i'll be happy.

I leave mine on...no issues. You don't get voltage spikes, usually, in cars.

I take it that this personal observation of yours is after trying women who are loose and dirty?
