Default RE: Toronto-Bel Sti Didn't Save Me on Laser

Well, after about 13 saves in the last 6 months with my Bel Sti hardwired by the sun visor, I got nailed by the Peel Regional Police on the weekend with his laser gun sitting on the tripod. I was his target and the Bel Sti went off without any warning. It was one of those cases where the PO stepped onto the road and waved me down to pull over. I immediately unplugged my Sti (I know, I should install a kill switch).

He told me that he clocked me doing 72 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. If anyone knows Mississauga, it was at Hurontario and Hillcrest, right where the beer store and liquor store is. This was a speedtrap for sure. Three or four other cars got pulled over by the officer using the laser while 2 other officers were writing up the ticket.

I guess you guys are right, either invest in a laser jammer or take your chances with the Sti on laser.

Heading to the court office tomorrow to request a trial. Time to do some research on the internet of how to fight a speeding ticket in Ontario.

Don't get me wrong on my opinion of the Bel Sti, I absolutely love it. Just didn't work in my favour against his laser. Those Peel Regional Officers are so damn ignorant....

Still after all this, I still have my Sti..

With the laser beam being so tight depending on how far he targeted you, this is the end result.Sorry you got nailed. This is why i still use my ZR3 setup even though without Veil on this front end i really don't stand a chance.

yea your lucky they didn't take it away. Be greatfull for that. And you can always hire a peraligal to drop some points if points are involved (worked for me about 3 times now - in windsor)

I got the same setup (sti to the mirror), and i just got the vail and lasershield yeasturday. It's probably not going to help any cause my car is silver and it's got so much damn crome trim.....Still scared to get a jammer in ontario. I wonder how many people are acutally sucessfully runing it.

22 Over ticket? no biggy. Check the ticket over to see if there's any errors.. assuming it's all good you go book an appointment to see the prosecutor, and when you do see him ask him to reduce the charge to 15 over. I can pretty much promise they'll do that - which is like $50 and no points.

Don't waste your money on a ticket specialist for such a small ticket... and next time veil up and make sure you remove your front plate or cover it with veil/LS aswell.

Never forget that the STi or any other detector for that matter will not save you from laser. The only RD with a slight chance of picking up scatter from other vehicles being targeted is the V1.

And no you cannot outbreak lidar, unless you have a decent jammer or veil.

    Well the question is...

What type of laser gun tagged you?

If it was a Laser Atlanta w/Stealth Mode turned on, I didnt think the Bel Sti detected the Stealth Mode unlike the V1 does.

Im not sure if the newer RD's other then the V1 detect LA III w/Stealth Mode.

Dang! I forgot all about testing my reflashed STi at the last Atlanta Jammerfest to see if it can detect LA stealth mode.

It would have most likely been an LA - as that's the choice gun for Peel region.. but I highly doubt it was in stealth mode. There's no reason for them to run it here since jammers AND detectors are illegal.

I can't see why any cop would want to use a LA in stealth mode. Max range is curtailed, and it takes a lot longer to acquire a target speed reading. And, thinking about how stealth mode works, it seems to me that it is much more likely for the LA to produce a false speed reading. Hmm...it seems to me that stealth mode is mostly marketing hype, similar to Cobra's 15 band detection marketing hype.
