The truth about STI ramp up fix vs. Escort x50 or V1

Got a new STI from authorize retailer in local store but my STI is 2208. That is, 22 weeks in 2008 made in Canada. Anyway, I realized the audio ramp up is basically two stage and only the ramp up display is acceptable.

I was thinking about sending it for upgrade, but after I saw a video online with the ramp up fix, I'm a bit disappointed. The unit audio ramp up can never be as smooth as the Escort x50 or the V1. Plus, no steady lock-tone anymore.

The good side I found about the two stage ramp up is less annoying, but I need to check on the display to estimate the radar distance.

Now, I'm thinking that I should wait before the warranty is going to expire for sending it in.

*If you have a x50 or V1, you will notice the ramp up incline is "steady-
gradual" like a curve without slowing back down in half way. If you ask me to pick which has the best audio ramp up, I will pick the Escort x50. (The tone is far less annoying on the Escort.)

You might consider sending it in. My STi was sent in and I can tell you the ramp up is very good. Maybe not as perfect as the X50 but good none the less. Also, the STi, with the ramp up fix, does have the lock up tone as well as the instant on tone.

Since when was the X50's ramp-up "perfect"? I'm sorry, but personally I find the behavior where a sudden step in signal strength forcibly PEGS the bar to be incredibly annoying (i.e. driving 50mph past a perpendicular speed sign generates 5 bar K, while driving 10mph past it generates 1-bar alerts). If you want true linear ramp-up, IMO the only guys that provide it that I've seen are the Whistlers and the Valentines.

Ah, gotcha, I didn't consider that. My only experience with the X50s have been the M4's and... it failed to really impress me. Not horrible but nothing to write home about.

The STi audio ramp-up fix isn't perfect, but it is good and it does give your STi several stages of audio alert rates. More importantly, the new firmware includes undisclosed features which improve performance and which help to reduce false alerts when the STi is used around town in AutoScan mode. Since the audio ramp-up fix is free for in-warranty STi owners, you really should consider sending in your STi for the new firmware code. Its definitely worth it. Shipping your STi to Bel via USPS fully insured priority mail is the cheapest way to ship it. Just keep in mind that USPS requires at least 1" of padding all around the boxed item for any insurance claim to be valid. UPS requires 2" of padding for anything insured with UPS.

I really think Im going to purchase the STI for my other car--I already have a V-1 and want to see any difference between the 2

I am going to place my order for STi Driver soon, when I'll finally get it, is there any way to check if I have the ramp-up or no?
