Hey there folks,
I have a question about the STi-R. Currently I have a STi mounted high on my windshield. I'm thinking about replacing it with a STi-R.
Ideally to install the STi-R I'd need to cut the wire that goes to the front receiver so I can feed it through a very small hole in my Porsche. I know Beltronics says not to do this but if I make a proper splice (fixing the shielding and all) I don't see that this would pose a problem.
What do you think?
I did the same type of splice running the wire for my current STi (though I know that's a bit different) with no problems.
I guess another way of doing this would be to disassemble the front receiver, unsolder the wire that attaches to the receiver, run the wire through the small hole, resolder the wire to the front receiver, then reassemble the front receiver.
I know this sounds like a lot of work (vs. just drilling a bigger hole) but in this situation this is how the STi-R would have to be installed. Basically the wire needs to be run through a tiny conduit and the conduit is smaller than the plug attached to the wire.
Please let me know your thoughts on this. Thanks for the help!
