Default STi-R/9500CI "smart cord" mount locations

I just got the STi-R and plan on installing it this weekend but I was wondering where other people that own it (or the 9500CI) mounted their smart cord things? (I realize they're not called smart cords but whatever the part that has the mute/modes buttons on it)

Can it be mounted flush into the dash? There doesn't seem to be any lips on the front so it looks like it would just fall through whatever hole I make big enough for it to fit in.

I want more of a installed look... and not just taped on to something like the manual suggests... but maybe that's my only option?

It is called a control module. I mounted my 9500ci's module next to the cigarette lighter. I've seen other people mount it on their steering wheel column facing away from the window. Have you determined a good place for the display?

Yeah I think I'm going to rig an aluminum bracket of sorts between my headliner and windshield right above my rear-view mirror. I'm still thinking about where to mount the speaker as well.

For now I'm thinking of mounting the control module on the upper left corner of the windshield. It's not exactly the most convenient location to reach the mute button... but it will be mostly hidden and it should stick well to the glass. Adhesives never stick to my interior very well so I don't think that's much of an option.

Dont you want to keep the mute available to you in a location that you can hit it that is a little less obvious then above your rearview mirror?

I'm not sure I understand your question. I'm not sure if my post was confusing or I'm just confused about yours. At the moment, I plan on mounting the display above the rear-view mirror and the control module on the top left corner of the windshield. I think you may have confused the two... otherwise, could you elaborate on your question please?

I mounted it on the center console, right at my finger tips.
