Thread: STi-R install

    Default STi-R install

    Hello to all,

Has anyone installed the STi-R on a porsche cayenne turbo? what would be the optimum place for the radar/laser receiver?

I was thinking dead center of the grill, up close to the hood. One concern is will the receiver fry from all the heat of this motor? also not sure on the receivers size, if would fit between the grills?

Pic attached feel free to draw her up,

I just got mine and that location seems good to me. Although, I'm not sure if it would fit. I don't remember exactly, but the receiver is thicker and bigger than I was expecting. If I had to guess, it's at least an inch thick...

    TQuill,

My understanding is up as high as possible, correct?

Thats why I feel if I can get it into that location it would be good. But it does seem to be a larger reciever (dont have it yet) and a bit worried if the heat will be to much there?

You installed your in the same style car?

Well I'm no expert, but I think as high as possible would be best. It makes sense to me that it would detect things better a higher location.

As for the heat... I'm not too sure. For the most part... the car will be moving and the receiver would get great air flow around so it would only experience noticeable amounts of heat when the car is stopped.

I'm actually installing mine on a sports car and I'm limited to an area that's not close to hot parts of the engine. So it wouldn't be a concern for me.

As for thickness, here are the dimensions:

    3.68 x 4.12 x 1.2 (in inches)

The antenna is not as big as you think, it is very close in size to a dash unit, but a little wider. I know mem tek made a cad paper drawing of it that you can print and then tape together.

As for mounting higher the better and with a clear view of the road, best not behind a grill.

I agree with your picture. Red is good. I think you will have to cut the grille to fit the receiver though. Installing the receiver behind the grill is not an option.

Consider a very low mount, as well
the theory is a clear view-of-the-road under the leading vehicles
Raising the plate an inch or so might accomidate this discreet placement

Many thanks to all of you!, I will consider these options, once I pick up the unit.

I finally got mine installed. I've been running it and the V1 together for a while and they behave just like most people say. They usually alert a second or two away from e/o... but sometimes the STi-R will beat the V1 by a rather large margin.
