I use a BEL 985 as a backup to my V1. I am willing to put up with a few problems in exchange for superior performance. My 985 came with a two-year warranty standard BTW.

You always are going to hear more about those with problems, people with no problems do not have a reason to come looking to post. But I would say that at the very least it does sound as thought the older Beltronic RD were better built (2 yr warranty standard), heck even Escort has their share of service warning.

I would like to venture a guess, that with a larger total volume of Belscort products being sold into the higher end sophisticated user, that statistically speaking, there will be more complaints because of the volumes sold.

In the thread that Jim mentioned above, I had posted a response. So far my X50 has been fine since I posted 4 months ago in regards to the Self-Cal message. I feel much more confident about my purchase of the Belscort product..

Which begs the question, is "Self Cal" a good thing ? I think so, I would rather my X50 Self-Cal then go blind as some V1 owners have reported, and have sent their's back to V1 for re-calibration.

    "Service Required" is another issue.

Rant: I would really like a Belscort rep to make a post here at RD.net satisfying us as to what "Self Cal" and "Service Required" is really all about, rather than the minimal explanation in their manuals!

you know, if Bels are SOOOOOOO Bad and have SSSSSSSOOOOOO many problems, why are they one of the top selling units??? Why do they constantly have good reviews?

I agree with Below the Radar on this

Yeah, I've read various reviews from Bel users at different sites (including epinions), and while they seem a little more favorable in general, I still see several people who rate them low and write about problems they have incurred.

I just know that if a product works AS EXPECTED....most people won't take the time to praise it, where as if someone spends their hard earned money on something and they are disappointed, they will go out of their way to complain (and rightfully so!).

I'm guessing that Bel doesn't have any customer satisfaction surveys, because from the sound of things they may not like to publish the results

Not to mention I haven't heard the best of things regarding their customer service.

So if these units have so many problems, they're expensive and have poor customer service.....why are they still held in such high esteem? When I asked about a Whistler Pro or a lower end Bel, almost everyone yelled "BEL"....but other than falses (which Bel also has, from what I'm reading), I haven't heard similar complaints about the Whistler models...
bel customer service are use to helpul and friendly since theymove to ohio they become crappy.

With all due respect to the fact that this is the Bel forum, I have to disagree. I'm aware of one forum here on radardetector.net where most of the posts seem to be from satisfied owners, not people with complaints.

I won't say which forum though... I'll let everyone guess.
