First let me say that I would suggest never turning off X detection. You never know when you'll come in contact with it.
Second..I don't speed on purpose. I only use my detector to be more aware of what's around me...to keep me alert and on my toes.
The following story is an example of both points!
Driving from NJ to Myrtle Beach. We always take a short cut from Lumberton, NC through back roads to Myrtle. The only slow down is in a small NC town between Lumberton and Myrtle where the speed limit drops from 60 to 25 MPH.
Its 11:45 pm and I'm tired. Can't wait to get to the hotel.
As I approach that small NC town I get an X alert (1-2 bars). I make sure I'm at the psl of 35. Them X goes to full alert as the town cop passes me in the opposite directon. Then silent. Then X starts to ramp up again as I'm now in the 25 MPH zone.
I look behind and the office had turned around and was following me through town. I keep right at 25 MPH as my detector stays at full X.
As I leave town he turns off.
For sure, with my fatigue and desire to get to Myrtle, without a detector (or one that had X off) I would have likely been over the psl and received a ticket!!
