I am in a process of installing my STi Driver and have a couple of questions.
1. I cutted the "connectors" of direct wire off and just wrapped the + wire around the cigarette lighter's + wire and - wire around cigarette lighter's ground wire. Of course I put some isolation tape around the exposed wires.
My cig lighter has a 15A fuse, but there is separate 2A fuse mounted into the direct wire (the fuse is inside the white tube). Is the connection ok? I was told it'll be working fine and that there's no danger that the detector would "blow up".
2. I have few spots in the car where I could install my RD. The best and most stealth is on the front left side on the dash, next to my speedometer. Will the RD get good detection from there? The view to the back isn't great as front and rear seats will be on it's way (but I heard it can detect also using reflections). So, will it still catch the radar signal? The amount of laser radars is very small here so catching laser is irrelevant, but possibility of good laser detection would be a nice add-on.
3. Does the unit really have good 360 degree detection? I mean will it beep if there will be a police car at the beginning of the acceleration lane? It is common that next to the main road is acceleration lane which is starting from some higher point that the main road. There is a police car standing and "shooting" cars driving on main road. No-one cannot see the car unless he'll look in his mirror after he allready passed the lane. But it'll be too late. So, will I get a warning in these situations (signal coming from the side and higher point than my car).
I was thinking of mounting my unit up high (on the sun visor), but decided to forget that option. My car gets much attention as it's not in it's stock condition and I don't like the idea of being scared that a policeman will look or COME into my car to investigate for example my tints on the front windows and notice the RD at the same time. I think it's better to hide and not just hope for best
Will be waiting for your answers guys, next thing to do is to decide where will I install my RD to, run a wire and connect! Hope I connected the unit "correctly" to my car's 12V DC so that I won't have to disconnect and do it again!
