Thread: STiR

    Default STiR

    Hey!

One question for you, couldnt find the answer with the search function.

I'm living in Europe and I'm interested in an STiR.

Is it the same units that are sold in America and in Europe?
    According to Bel: NO.
    Is there any software/hardware differences?

Since we can chose KA bands, we simply need to choose the european ones?

    Thank you!

Looking at their European STI-R specs on their web page it does look like the same unit and covering the same wave lengths for radar and laser reception. Call Bel back and ask what the differences are and post results if you don't mind. I have mine in an 08 civic and think no matter what other opinions you read on this forum it is the best radar unit ever produced. I would find out what frequencies are used where you intend to be and set it up accordingly. Running with RDR off also will enhance reception.

I already chatted with Bel and they say there is a difference... but I think its crap. They want me to buy from a distributor in Europe...

It's less than half the price in US/Canada. 550USD (350EUR) VS 800 EUR.

    If anybody knows...

The units they are selling at half price (just a lil more) I saw on fleabay state they are authorized. Worth checking because they have conditions but state they offer a 1yr. factory warranty. I highly reccomend getting factory warranty and then send the unit in for a check. Tell them you are sending in for ramp up fix.

Do I really need the warranty? I don't mind taking the risk.

I got one without the warranty. You can send it in for service for like 50 or 60 bucks. Way cheaper to save 200-300 up front. I don't see the risk.

Assuming that you have the most recent version (not sure how you would tell), there should be little risk. If it is old stock (early 2008) then it may not have the receivor error fix.

Some of the early models started giving this error on ocassion but there were not that many shipped out. Also some of the early versions had bad displays. Several people here, including me had their displays replaced under warranty.

    Back on topic... :-)

Is there a difference between the European one and the American one?
