Well, after about a month or so of waiting I finally came across a mobile photo radar unit "Dodge Nitro" Saturday morning on the way out to the cabin. The unit was shooting K band 24Ghz. My STi didn't give as much warning as I would of thought. Only about 500ft. I don't know much about radar and how it works....but if its a mobile radar unit, the camera is fixed to the passenger seat and the operator hides in the back waiting to hit the button. So if its a camera operated mobile unit I can only imagine the radar is only set to go a certain distance so that the camera can snap a picture of the vehicle speeding. It seemed like I had to get into its line of sight before I was alerted. Its a known spot for the sneaky bastards I saw the unit then my STi went off. I believe it was still plenty of time to slow my speed but I thought I would of got a better warning. Maybe someone can elaborate on the scenario...maybe thats normal for those units as they need a picture to accuse the driver..so that would require a certain amount of range between radar/camera/vehicle ?
