RX65 Questions

well i just recently bought a rx65 and had a small question.

KA usa or KA intl?
i would assume being here in the states KA usa
but i have benn running it for a week and i have yet to have KA go off. the cops in our town run radar 70% of the time. I have seen cops numurous times ans i understan it could just be a coinsidence that they were all off but it it kind of has me a little parinoid.

any thoughts
and before any ones asks I have gone through the manual a couple times and it dosn't destinguish between the two.

Ka USA will only alert to Ka frequencies within 100MHz of the Ka guns currently produced for the US market. (33.8GHz, 34.7, and 35.5, +/- 100MHz for each) Some old test results have shown Ka USA yields marginally better results, however there is an extremely slim chance that you may run into an out of tune radar gun, or an old frequency used in which case your RX65 would ignore the signal.

Ka Int'l is a misnomer on the RX65, its not for international Ka radar, but for scanning the entire Ka band (33.4-36.0) like just about every other RD does that doesnt have Ka segmentation.

What dpatel said, Ka-USA gives you a slightly better response time. I have it set, the minute chance I may encounter an out of tune Ka-band gun is a fair tradeoff for better performance in my opinion.

Please use International.

In USA mode I once missed a C/O alert from an old Stalker that our locals use. Its always on - The LEO is so lazy half the time I see him he failed to put his clip on tie correctly. Nice Small town usa

He turned his lights on quickly and motioned for me to slow down as he was looking for out of towners on vacation and knew the car.

X2, I use USA mode. Also Radar Roy seems to recommend this mode.

"Q1: Dear Radar Roy, I am in the process of buying a radar detector from your web site, however, I have a question that I was hoping you could help me with. First, I have read just about everything on the site and have been wanting to buy for a long time now. A: Yes, there is a difference and that is in the tuning of the detectors and the programming. The main difference is that the 955 is tuned more for international use rather then the US on the ka bands. If you're strictly going to use the detector within the US, I would recommend the RX65. Another advantage of the RX65 is that you can program it for multiple boggie alerts. This isn't a big deal unless you are an advanced user. "

Back when I used an RX65, I noticed substantial improvements in warning running the RX65 in USA mode, particularly on off-axis 35.5, and 33.8 around a curve.

Compared with a 1.8 V1 the RX65 (with the S7 antenna) had far superior performance than the V1, so long as it was run in USA mode. Intl mode range seemed similar.

The Ka performance of my old RX65 S7 when run is USA mode was very similar to my STI today, but slightly less when run in Intl.

Just to give the other perspective from the M4 side...

My observations with the M4 antenna is that the USA mode gives a very slight performance boost over Ka and K band (and likely X band but I can't test that here). So far as I'm aware I've not missed any shots using USA mode, unless the weird false I always get from my local Publix counts! Enabling POP causes performance to plummet.

I will respectfully say I think your V1 is out of tune. I compared it against a 3.864 V1 and found Ka to be superior (by about 2-3 seconds, especially off axis) on the V1 and the V1 had a slight edge on K band. On Ka 35.5, however, the RX65 and V1 are in a dead heat.

I was wondering how you like your rx65? Does it do well in the city? And highway?

According to Memtek, runnning the RX65 is USA mode gives the RX65 about 25 percent better detection than international mode. He indicated that USA mode puts the RX65 very close the BEL STI in sensitivity.
