    Default STi Driver operating temperatures

I found this thread using search option, but there's few things still bothering me.

    - My RD is mounted on the height of my speedo, so it's not "hidden" from the sun like it would be if I mounted it high next to my RVM -> Especially on long journeys when the sun will be hitting my RD straight from the front, will it be enough to keep my car cool from the inside (A/C on), or is there a possibility that the sun will get my unit too hot even the temperature inside the car will be at a reasonable level?

    - If my unit will get too hot during it's operation, will it turn itself off automatically? I've read somewhere that STi Driver is programmed to shut itself down to prevent overheat and damage of components.

    Best regards, Alex

I run mine on the dash. It gets hot from the sun but not hot enough to shut it down. If I park in the sun, then I move it to a cooler area. CP did a heat test on rd's a couple years ago. That is probably where you read about the heat thing.

Cool and handy option idea for future - it allready has voltmeter, next thing to add -> thermometer

Edit: I don't leave my RD inside the parked car for more than 30 min.

So when the unit gets too hot, it shuts itself down. Does it display any message or not?

I've read one old review which gave me idea that it displays "Service Required" -message, is that true or did I misunderstand the text?

    Best regards, Alex

It will shut itself down. And will not turn back on until it has cooled down.

It will only say service required if something was damaged from the heat. or if anything is damaged at all by any reason.

    Sorry off topic question:
What is the minimum operating temperature in the winter, head for the STI R?

the MINIMUM? honestly i have no idea. There are tons of people who live in freezing temperatures and can run their RD's and Jammers no problem. I came out one morning in 35 degrees, and ice on my blinders and STI r and they started up without delay.

Vlad, as far as I know there is no lowest operating temperature for RDs.

aa2033, that's good to know. Will the unit turn automatically back on after cooling down, or is it needed to power it back on manually?

    Best regards, Alex

It was -12F here about a month ago. The V1 and Sti-R started up just fine and ran like clockwork. When I found i was headed to North Dakota I e-mailed Bel about the temp concerns. Their reply was simply " The detectors will be fine. Remember they are made in Canada where temps hit -40F on a regular basis".

I'm not sure if it will automatically turn back on, i wouldn't think so though.
