Vector 995 False K band alerts vs RX65 & Escort 8500

Hello,

I have had a Bel Vector 995 for some months now and although it's performance has been stellar, including producing virtually no false alerts on X-band, I do have one gripe and that is it's large amount of false K band alerts, especially in urban areas when driving past fuel stations.

I was wondering whether this is specific just to the 995 or If I was to get the RX65 or Escort 8500 whether this issue would ideally disappear or more likely reduce the number of K band false alerts. Another thing is that I need a detector that picks up Ku band, I know the RX65 detects this, but does the 8500 pick up Ku too?

In my experience, the 995 does not get that many K band false alerts. Are you getting the falses near stores and buildings, or are you getting them out in the boonies?

Its mainly in urban areas that I get the false K alerts (usually by shopping centres and filling stations).

seems normal to me. just automattic doors. and no the 8500 does not pick up Ku. good luck.

No, most detectors will produce falses in the K band due to motion sensors used in gas stations and shopping centers. Usually seen in urban areas and the signal strength shouldn't be high at all. As for KU, the X50 does not pick up KU band, but apparently it can be sent in to Escort for "reprogramming" when KU hits Northern America. If you need KU detection now, try going with the RX65.

Since he already has the Vector 995, which also has KU detection built in (http://www.beltronics.com/vector995.html), the RX65 wouldn't be an "upgrade" in that area. I think he mainly was asking about the falses of the 995 compared to the RX65 and Escort 8500....but was asking if the Escort has KU detection, which you answered correctly that it currently doesn't (but according to some posts I've read from Escort users who have talked to their customer service, they have been told that they will "add" it as a software upgrade if KU becomes relevant in the states......

Maybe your 995 is more sensitive than mine was. Mine was noticeably less sensitive on K band than the V1.

nothing wrong with your detector urban areas have alot of automatic door openers which is why you get all the k-band falsing

Why do you need a detector that detects "Ku-band"???? What country do you live in....Cause if it's the USA Ku is not a real threat....the BEL rx65 detects Ku as well but you'd experience the same K-band falsing

I get a slew of K alerts from door openers around here. Really nothing that you can do about it, and I really don't think that you'll gain anything from going to a different detector.

Many thanks for your speedy replies, it is much appreciated, if you were wondering why I was asking about Ku band, it is because it the predominant radar band in use in South Africa.

Guess I will just have to stick with the 995 and make peace with the K-band false alerts.
