Has anyone mounted the STi-R antenna on the windshield inside the car. Wouldn't you think this would give the best reception? This would be an option for those that would need to do too much grill modification.

We compared happya$$'s 9500ci mounted on his visor against thestaton's mounted in his grille at the results were fairly close.

The next obvious question is, why bother? Why not just buy a RedLine if you're going to mount it on your windshield anyhow?
Why bother? Good question. I was toying with the idea that you could have the control and display units mounted more stealthy. More or less a Redline with concealed display. Plus you can mount the antenna close to the headliner for a less conspicuous look.

also if you ever wanted to go more stealthy you could remount in the grill. But with the redline you could switch cars easily, and with the STi-R you couldn't. But the STi-R has Ka segmentation and RDR. But the redline will be able to interface with the sc55 and the STi-r can't. But theres a potential STI-r + upgrade kit on the horizon.
now you just gotta figure out which ones right for you. Personally I chose the STi-R with plans for a future V1 purchase as well.
I too have considered this option but for different reasons.
For those that live in banned areas and want the features that the remote units offer and who may want a stealthier install hidden from a walk around inspection plus the benefit of protection from driving on roads that are fraught with stone damage.
I was wondering about this too.. although not mounting it right in the windscreen, but maybe hanging down from the roof a little (mounted so it doesn't swing around).
I wanted to do it partly for hiding from LEO's (who don't generally take kindly to people using electronic aids to reduce their revenue earning), and partly because I'm worried the only suitable grill aperature on the front of the car is about 8 inches off the ground and may get destroyed by stones/kangaroos/plants.
Don't suppose anyone has actually tested in-cabin performance of the Sti-R receiver?
Oops.. ok I just failed at reading 101.
Thanks mate.. having a read of the site now
edit: Found the 9500ci references in the graphics at the very bottom. Am I reading it right? Ka band was better with the higher windshield mount than low on the grille, but K band was better low down?
Might have to go take some pics of the car and mark up where I want to put the receiver.

would mounting high be a prooblem for multanova? eg in the top right corner of the windscreen (where police won't look for detector). Im also trying to ind a way around cutting the front grill
Mount it behind your bumper, completly hidden. Mine is and works awesome.
Bumpers are generally thinner then windscreens. Visible light is part of the electromagnetic spectrum aswell. So why would K/Ka band pass through windscreens better then a bumper just because the frequency our eyes pick up passes through glass better?
