Yeah well -50c is as low as it gets but it doesn't stay there long enough to cry for. But yeah even -25c the car sounds like it's protesting!

wolfpacal, i would like that link please. Few months back when I was exploring the STI option I did look for visor bags but alot looked very baggy and sloppy.

Another concern about visor mounting the RD is that the Audi TT's roof is very curved so there is almost no line of sight through the front windshield and my head would probably block the LOS for the rear. Definately gonna hardwire it, but why a kill switch? So I can turn it off when a cop stops me?

Anyways where can I get the redline for $420 if I don't have any old junker to trade in? I saw a thread where someone was quoting that price but can't seem to find it. Or I was considering a used STI on ebay just because I've spent way too much recently on the car... summer wheels/tires, alu skid plate etc...

-35c

I left a Escort X50 in my vehicle for a few months at -35c in Edmonton. Its 3 years old and still works 95% like new, I think its starting to go from the Hot Sun in summer, not the extreme cold. Frying it when its ON has to be 10x worse than freezing it while off.

I'm also concerned about the car heater pointed directly on the windshield/detector at full blast on a cold winters day.

With a typical speeding ticket $400 and a detector at $400. I would just leave it in the cold car all winter and buy a new one every 2-3 years and enjoy it.

ps. I have no garage to protect from cold. so real temperatures are consistent -10c to -40c for winter months.

If it's that cold then the more important factor would be snow and slush from the road that would no doubt coat the antenna, making it useless. Not to mention if where you are is anything like New York, we love road salt here. Which means cleaning the antenna everyday until about May when the salt is finally gone.

Lol because of said reasons, I got a sti driver instead. redline is more than double the price i paid for the sti so... hardwired it last night and now I'm just waiting for someone to help me pick up the visor pouch that was sent to the border.

Bought it from radarbusters on the 8th but they didn't ship it out till the 11th so the estimated arrival of 12th was scratched. And when I went to pick my stuff up at the parcel service on the 13th, well the pouch wasn't there.
