Default experiences with the Beltronics STI-Driver?

At this moment i am really interested in the Beltronics STI,so maybe i will order this one.But before i decide to do this,i would like to have a few answers from people who have experiences with this type of detector.
In Holland(Netherlands) the police is using most of the time the Multanova radar(freq. 34,36 ghz) ,especcially on the highways. The most of the rd users in Holland are using an detector with Ka-narrow(to be sure that the very difficult signal of the Multanova will be detected). My question to you is: should it be possible to detect the Multanova freq. with the Ka-superwide function of the STI? I know that the Beltronics 975 works very well with the Multanova radar, however it is also an detector with Ka-wide(the same as the STI). I am now using the Beltronics 966R(Stinger Ventura) with ka-narrow function which really satisfied, but the unit is still visible for the rdd spectre 3. And that,s a real hot item in Holland at the moment........ An other option for me is to buy the Stinger DSI,but price of this really sucks...... :? I hope that someone can give me a few answers.....

    Thanks guys!

I believe that any superwide detector, including the STI, would provide little useful warning against the Multanova. The BEL 975 does have Ka narrow, as well as superwide.

No one, I believe (and trust me, I've been watching for this as I am in your position too) has tested the STi directly against the Multanova units (especially from 34.1-34.5 including the Multanova frequency drift we have).

I was hoping that they would put in a priority system, where the photo radar band(s) are scanned more frequently, and the photo radar frequencies have a lower "tolerance" so they warn earlier, as there are unlikely to be false alerts on the exact photo radar frequencies.

What we DO know right now is that the STi does NOT have much much better performance than the X50 against regular wideband radar. Someone here has already tested it side-by-side with a Escort X50 and they said the performance is abou t the same, certainly no big difference, so no worse no better. A bit disappointing.

I am just hoping for the priority scanning in the STi, if it does not have this, then you can expect photo radar detection to be approximately the same as the X50... which I found to be among the best for the wideband detectors... but not as good as narrowband-frequency-specific detectors.

You could get one of the filters for your 966 that brings down the Spectre range to 4-5 metres... as of yet there is no real info about the STi, though DET's testing may be interesting

    Which raises an interesting point.
As RD's are banned in much of Europe, and the use of Photo Radar is almost Epidemic there.....what were Bel thinking?
A Spectre Proof RD that is almost useless against the most common type of speed enforcement :?:

Simple programming would probably put the STI at an advantage with photoradars. Probably a "Target Beltronics STI Euro" or something.

    Don't forget the "Ku Factor"

Indeed, there are filters available for the Beltronics 966,also for the 975 etc. The filters from dr. Q and Enerby(both dutch engineers) works very well, but the only problem is delivering time. Some customers are still waiting(after ordering) for three or four months or longer...... :? I am also... These engineers are making the filters in their own private time,so you will understand that this is not going very fast. Complete rd- minded Holland will be interested in these unique products.
I hope that there will come soon a test with the STI,about detecting different freq.(also Ka 34,36 Mn6f),detecting distances, sensitivity etc.

I am looking forward to this

Yes, indeed. In fact, the difference between the so-called Euro detectors and the "regular" ones is just the software. The board, horn, etc. hardware is the SAME.

The recently released V1 EURO mode operates in both modes... either the regular superwide or the narrowide for 34.3Ghz. So why can't Bel/Escort implement the same thing? The regular V1 detects the same or slower than the X50 when it comes to photo radar, so you would imagine an X50 with a narrowband software option would be at least as good or even better!

Then again, with their con of the XR650 AUSTRALIAN-tuned detector (which is basically just a regular one with X turned off) and similar expamples, what kind of intelligence and honesty can we expect? How hard is it for them to include this option for us just like they did with the Bel 990i? To me, the 990i had like 10 selectable frequencies, and was the BEST detector... too bad they've gone backwards in recent times.
