Default VECTOR 985 PICKED UP K BAND SIGN 2.7 MILES AWAY

I was driving around last night looking for some laser hits well I drove out on the highway headed east on I 20 and as I am comin up to the 360 over pass I started to get a K band I was like WHAT?? Arlington Only shoots laser!!! I was surprised so I thought it was a false because further down the road was a buch of stores, like walmart target and such, so I thought no big deal well it still was going off so I thought to my self this cant be a false, its lasted too long to be a flase, well I decided to call it a night and so I get off to turn around at carrier parkway which is about 5 miles out from 360. well then I was going west on I 20 and then I got the hit again. so I marked it at 135.9 well when I am coming up to the 360 overpass I was a full 9! I was frantically looking for a state trooper cause that could be the only explaniation for this, well then I saw it , a This is you speed sign. I start to laugh so hard, cause this was driving me crazy. well at the point I passed it my trip meter said 138.6, that 2.7 miles, I was like NO WAY!! It was awesome. it is the longest pick up ever since I have had it.

Lucky enough for me when I was going in I got hit with laser for the first time since I have had it too. man talk about an exciting night!

Question though, My laser alert only went off for about a second, does anyone know if the 985 has a timer like the X 50 and how it goes off for like 5 secs even if it gets hit for only one second!!!????

Well when my 985 alerts to laser it is that full solid tone for 2 seconds or so, maybe 3, then begins that almost full strenght rapid chirp for a few more seconds, I believe the solid tone alert is for the duration that the RD is actually detecting the laser beam, and the the after rapid chirping is just a reminder (???) of the precence of laser in the area, na duh.

As far as the long range K detection, a thought just occures to me, as in your example you mentioned "last night", it reminded me of a simple fact, that radio transmitions are stronger and not weakened by the more intense everyday noise during the daytime, essentially, nightime is quiter for background noise/interference.

    Example:

One late night at collage in Tampa, FL I was able to listen (clear and continuous) to a weak radio signal originating from Ft. Lauderdale/Miami, FL. The distance between these cities, let alone being on the opposite sides of the penisula, and separated by the Florida everglades, is approximately 300 miles. During the day time, the biggest factor is the SUN bombarding the earth surface, and other increased electrical noise (forgive me I know I may not be describing everything correctly/terminology) over runs the other weak radio signals. Point being very simply, better resolution when background noise/interference is lower (just like watching TV late at night, where as during the day it is too low, so you rasie the volume to better listen, but back again during the night you tend to lower it).

Doesn't that suck ! I wonder if voters made it illegal to have laser jammers in california? Anyways, I am getting a laser jam for my birthday (in July..still a while away) and I live in CA. I am gonna try to have someone install it as concealed as possible. And everytime I get hit, ill just slow down to speed limit and turn the unit off, so the LEO can get a reading..therefore he won't know I have a jammer. (Well that's what I am hoping anyways, hheehe) hehe

Has anyone ever been busted for having a laser jammer? Not that I know of.

Actually it happens, not every day perhaps but it can happen. I personally dont think its worth the risk of getting caught with the equipment on the car since there arent very many laser shooters out in cali.

I have heard stories of people getting their equipment destroyed, for example the officer making you run over your gear with your rear tire......extreme example perhaps but who knows...my 2 cents..
