    Default Band Segmentation Scenario

Ok, so I'd like to know everyone's opinion on this scenario. Let's say I'm running a Bel STi-r and I only have Ka segment 5 (the segment for Ka 34.7) enabled; I also would have RDR OFF. How do you think the overall sensitivity against Ka 34.7 would compare to:

    A) a Bel STi-r with Ka segments 2-5-8 ON and RDR OFF

    B) a 9500ci

    A) Better, but the difference would be slight and it would be hard to realize in real world testing. The more sweeps you put in on any given frequency, over any given time period, the better your chance of seeing a weak signal. Removing 400mhz of bandwidth from your sweep pattern is therefore good, however........the 2.0ghz you removed by turning off segs 1,3,4,6,7,9 and 10 is obviously going to make a much bigger difference.

    B) Since the 9500ci always has RDR active, and you cannot switch off any Ka segments, the STi-R Plus should leave it in the dust. The performance improvement should be very noticeable.......particularly on Ka band. Theoretically, K-Band performance should also improve because of the reduced bandwidth being swept. One thing to keep in mind is that there are different hardware/firmware versions out there for both the 9500ci and STi-R that can skew results beyond these program settings. Everything else being equal though, the STi-R should kick butt.

Ok, so the gain in sensitivity against Ka 34.7 you get from just having segment 5 on vs. having 2-5-8 on wouldn't be all that big. Thanks for the info.

Off axis coverage for other bands is worth its wait in gold. Stay with 2-5-8 RDR off like the (VEIL Man) told us. As I recall he field tested and then reported to the naysayers on how to use the unit effectively.

I always run this scenario when I am on the Northway and sometimes on the Thruway in NY. Segment 5 enabled and RDR off, I let my STi handle the other bands. The detection is excellent against those stalkers and although my STi is good on 34.7 is is not even in the ballpark of the -R. Even in the mountains I have long range alerts coming over hills and sometimes have thought they maybe were falses if it took me 30-45 secs to finally ID the trooper.

Last night I drove down the northway and there was a trooper shooting very brief and selective i/o with his front antenna (opposite lane cars) that the -R caught about 1/2 of a mile away while the STi was silent. I got hit by the rear antenna as I approached and both detectors alerted, but without the -R picking up the two i/o shots previously, things would not have worked out in my favor. I have several encounters like this where the -R saved me over a hill, with moving i/o or picking up the opposite antenna where the Sti would not have. All of these encounters were stalker.
