My new toy arrived here yesterday and I must get around to installing it as soon as I get some horizontal vs vertical mount testing runs done against a few of the Redflex radar vans we currently have in service here now.
All research points to the fact that a vertical mount will be the best. Even another Irish member posted a video of his Redline performing very well against one of them a few days ago so I am pretty sure I will have to go with that.
Anyway, to the question...
If I remember correctly, one of the dual antennas is for X and the other one is for K and Ka. Correct?
If this is so, then which one is for K band? If you are looking at the receiver head with the serial number side facing up at you, is it the right or left one?
I need to find this out as the front of my car looks like this one...
As you can see, the area under the number plate would be very good to mount the receiver if I were to do it horizontally but not suitable at all for a vertical one. I could still manage to pull this off if I knew which antenna/horn was being used for K so that I could leave that be the one to have an unobstructed view of the road ahead and I have X turned off anyway so it wouldn't matter if that one was blocked.
I still have another option. If you look closely at that pic, there is another taller opening below the one I was planning to mount it at but that would put it very close to the road and that is a very flimsy area to be risking mounting an expensive gadget like that .
Mounting it behind the honeycomb plastic grill is out of the question from what I read on here and it would stick out like a sore thumb if I were to cut that grill and these things are illegal here so thats a no-go Im afraid. Mounting it behind the flat plastic bumper is also impossible as the front cross member is directly behind that and it may decrease range even if it could be done anyway.
If you know the best way to do this, please let me know if you have any suggestions as I need it to squeeze out every bit of range I can against these radar vans so all advice welcome .
Thanks in advance guys and the videos will be posted in the photo radar forum in this thread..
