Default jmich's take on the STI-R Plus

Couple of days with the + now and here are my thoughts:

Reason for Purchase: I wanted to have a detector that had all the sensitivity and range of a M3 and V1, the GPS features of the ci / ix (since I hate falsing), undetectability for road trips to VA and something I didn't have to take off my windshield or dash every time I parked. I own a V1 but it never shuts up, and my 9500ix is awesome, but is no V1.

ON: Pilot SPD, GPS, aLock, Tec, ENG, Voice, Bands Mod X, K, KA [2, 5, 8], Mark DFT

If you looked at my Subaru Legacy install you can see that I run my + antenna low in the grill. http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...ad.php?t=71451 I do still run the V1 up on the visor, A mode Ka Gaurd on. Very familiar w/ the no - no's of running 2 together, but here is my review so far.

    Falsing:

The V1 and STI-R plus have been neck to neck as far as picking up door openers from the local Walgreens, Walmarts, etc. Usually the STI-R sees it first, followed a half second later by the V1. Probably 1 out of 5 go to the V1 and that's usually on X band. This made me happy knowing that the Belscort was not only hanging with the dynamic V1, but was also doing a little better. Now one of the reasons I don't like the V1 is because my area is full of falses. In one of my very near neighboring suburbs, they run C/O K band and I basically ignore all V1 K band alerts in the city or burbs. The STI-R plus has already begun locking out these signals and is becoming my silent, sensitive best friend.

    Real Threats:

    K Band
I was expecting to have the same results of a real threat that I was getting during the prelockout stages of the + vs. V1. As of last night I encountered my first K band threat. The STI-R plus picked up first and I was waiting for the V1 to follow in unison. This was in the burbs on city streets, straight away with 2 major hills. Since I leave the STI-R + in Tech Display, I was able to see what the band was and see if it changes. I kept driving and was still getting just the K band alert on the same freq but no V1. 1/4 mile to 1/2 mile later the V1 chimed in. Sure enough, a 1/2 mile later I see the Local leo running moving C/O K band. Big thumbs up to the plus which definitely dominated the V1 in this scenario and made me feel reassured that I didn't dump all this cash into a radar that just seemed to "hang" with the V1 but actually outperformed it.

    Ka 34.7
Unbelievable range. I have several videos posted. It has beautiful ramp up and detection range is mind boggling. This is all dedicated to segmentation and having RDR off. Always beats the V1 except for rear shots. It usually is .5 seconds behind the V1 on rear shots.

    Ka 35.5
On axis, off axis, doesn't matter. Unbelievable range. Smokes the V1 in off axis. Great ramp up. Everything you could ask for as far as detection goes.

    Responded as should to LIDAR

Ramp up: Awesome so far in my first encounter. No heart attack alert and seemed to react how it should

    Features for me and why
Pilot SPD: I like having an extra digital speedometer
GPS On: Whole purpose of buying this detector was lock out all the falses
Autolock On: When I get burned by this feature, I promise I will let you know but still never had an issue with this on my 9500ix and I just like it
Speed Check - OFF: Having this setting on will show your speed for the first few seconds of detection. I want to see the frequency immediately not my speed
Automute - OFF: I don't mind the beeping of real alerts and since the plus is well on it's way to eliminating falses, the real beeps can stay
Units - Eng: No metric here
Voice - ON: I think my STI-R plus voice sounds like Corky from life goes on and that is what I have named my STI-R Plus, and my wife can't stop laughing now every time it talks
    Bands: X - On, K - On, Ka - 2, 5, 8 , Pop - off, SWS - off, LSR - ON, RDR - Off because of Segmenting, TSR - Off for now
Markers - All ON: Another great feature of the STI-R Plus

Installation: Locating the display and controls are key to this detector. I love being able to see and control this system from the window controls. LOTS of wires to bundle. Research, time and game plan will benefit you immensely.

Likes: Everything!!! So far, I absolutely love this detector!!!

Dislikes: I still need to run my $400 V1 so I know where the threat is coming from

I will update as I get more usage and am well aware that I can't base future results on one C/O K threat, but at least the first one wasn't disappointing!

So are you saying the Sti-R + is the lamborghini of radar detectors? Sorry, i couldn't resist.

I also have been very impressed with the STIR+ ramp up and sensitivity. I am jealous because I don't currently have a V1, I traded up from my 9500i to this concealed model which has been great.

I had to mount mine low as well and haven't seen any problems. Did you run your LI jammer through your STIR+ or seperate?

If you ran it through the same hub/ relay how did you install a kill switch?? (I need to install a kill switch with the jammers but they run to the same power source as the stir+)

The laser interceptor has 12V input which goes to pin one. That taps directly off of the ignition hot. Nothing comes on unless the key is in accessory mode. With the key in accessory mode, the STI-R comes on and the V1 comes on. The LI has power at its box, but is not on. The power enters pin one and leaves pin 2 which goes to the switch. When the switch is flipped, pin 2 is now connecting with pin 6. This is what turns on your LI. So, your LI is off unless the switch is on. If you need to kill the LI, you just flip the switch. Make sense?
