    Default Old Bel vector 940

Have been given an old Bel vector 940 (old shape), complete with "digital broadband technology" (whatever that means) still powers up ok. Does anyone know what they are like, is it a piece of Sh$te or is it ok ? not that i will be using it, but if its at least ok, I could give it to one of my mates. Don't want to give it to a mate if it is no good tho.

It is obviously old technology, so at this stage i am guessing it is in the piece of sh$te category !!

That is the older style of V940's... Not just S7-old w/current case, but older, w/older case AFAIK they actually are fairly decent units, but since it likely needs service (or will at some point fairly soon)... I'd say trade-in for $80.

I never got a ticket with my old 940. I drove pretty straight roads with rolling hills - not complicated terrain. It was pretty quiet in the city but picked up k band in plenty of time.

I only got a new detector because it eventually broke. I think it's a good detector. You can do a lot worse.

The old, original 940 was from the pre-Belscort Beltronics, so there's no S7 in there. They made decent detectors back then though, if it hasn't fallen out of tune or broken, it's still a viable unit even today.

Disagree with turning it in. I have an old school V940 with DBT (Digital Broadband Technology) and it is a f***ing beast of a detector. If you live in the city it will be highly annoying but I don't so I don't get X-band or K-Band falses since I live in rural parts of t he country. Why trade an S7 for 80 dollars for an M4 which will not even compete. The V940 if in decent shape will win on I/O, Off-Axis, and every radar band. Trading up is like trading down. I'll give you a V1 for a cobra, basically. My V940 ghetto rigged is a monstrosity.

Thanks for the feedback guys, looks like I might have to do some testing to see if its still in tune then, and maybe hang onto it

Radarrob, I have another unit I would use for the trade in program, its a Bel 220 Euro that i know isn't much good !! I did actually buy that one secondhand just to see how a cheap detector went against my better units, I think you know the answer !!

The "old 940" DOES use the S7 platform. They were sold as the cheapest option in the Vector series, which also included the 985 and 960 at the time. Basically, the 940 should perform like the 985, it just has less features. In some cases, it will out-perform the current 940. These were sold until at least late 2003, well after "Belscort"

Since these were sold both before and after the FCC imposed rules requiring certfication in 2002, units exist with and without the FCC labeling (but all are S7s regardless). In the image below, the one on the left was prior to the FCC regulations. The one in the middle had the new FCC sticker placed over the smaller case area intended for the old sticker. The one on the right has the updated case with area designed to accomodate the larger sticker. The two units on the right are also in the image above.
