Last week, I decided to purchase a radar detector for the first time. After receiving a speeding ticket for going 6 mph over the speed limit on the interstate, I knew I needed a way to protect myself from the obvious revenue generator the state disguises as a speed limit.
I wanted a good detector that didn't break the bank. After doing some research, I saw positive reviews on the new Beltronics V8 so I bought it. It was quite easy to use—open up the package, plug it into the cigarette lighter socket and turn it on. I glossed over the directions and saw a section about the programming which I disregarded because I felt the factory settings would be just fine.
I've been using it for a week now, and I've run into a couple of problems. I live in the city so I get a bunch of false alarms. I don't have a problem with that. However, I was driving on the interstate with my radar on, set to "highway mode," when I saw a cop pointing his laser or radar gun at me. I immediately slammed on my breaks. Fortunately, he didn't get me. One mile before, my radar gun began to alert me of a "K" band. But that only lasted for a second and stopped so I thought it was a false alarm.
Is there something wrong with my Beltronics or is it supposed to just alert you once for a brief second. I thought it would alert you until you actually passed the cop. This has occursed at least 4 times now, and I've only been using it for a week.
Can somebody please explain or help me?
