I was running my STi along with my V1 the other day. I take the STi inside with me at work so it doesn't spend a lot of time on a hot windshield. On the way home from work I stopped at the store and was inside for maybe 20 minutes. I put it in a soft-sided carry case I had for an older BEL and put it on the floor out of the sun. I put it back on the windshield for the remainder of the drive home. About 6 miles down the road I noticed that the STi missed a strong X band false alert source that I normally encounter. Then it totally missed a moving K band radar that the V1 picked up easily more than a mile away. The STi was totally dead on X and K band. The next day it was just fine alerting at the same time or slightly ahead of the V1 on K band. It has been fine ever since.
I keep my interior temperature at 68 degrees and the STi was not so hot that I couldn't touch it. As a matter of fact it wasn't nearly as hot as the Redline. This does not seem to be a normal response to heat. Also, there was not any warning from the STi. No "Self Cal" or "Service Required" was ever displayed. I thought the BEL was supposed to tell me when there was a heat related issue! The way it behaved I can't really trust it. I sure can't run it by itself. Without the V1 I most likely would have had a ticket.
So has anyone else had this issue? Is it fixable or just something I have to live with? I've never had heat related issues like this with the V1 nor the Redline.
