    Default Why'd my STi-R+ lock-out a speed trailer?

That is, a speed trailer that has never been in that particular location before.

Coming home from work, I stopped at a traffic light near my house. Shortly before I reached the light, my V1 was starting to brap out a K band alert ahead. While I was waiting, I happened to glance down at my (still-quiet) STi-R+, and noticed the satellite icon was spinning, which is strange because I don't ordinarily get an alert in that location, except maybe once or twice over a month ago caused by one of those stupid adaptive cruise controls on a Mercedes.

Anyway, I unlocked it manually and it alerted normally after that (it was K, 24.122). But why did it see fit to lock out this signal when it was never there before? I know it's supposed to autolock after approximately 3 times seeing a signal, but does that include seeing it only 3 times over the course of 2 months? Plus I doubt the frequency was the same, since previous K hits were from adaptive cruise controls, and this was a speed trailer.

After I got through the light I drove on to see where the trailer was, and it was about 1/4 mile from the light facing the opposite direction, so it was forward facing relative to where I was when my V1 started "seeing" it.

    Thoughts?

honestly no clue why it locked it out, especially since it is supposed to receive the signal three consecutive times before locking it out. My only guess is that maybe you hit the mute button more than once the last time you passed by it which could have locked it out, or does anyone else drive your vehicle who may have manually locked out the signal. I've accidentally locked out alerts manually myself a few times.

Maybe something to ask Beltronics about. I drive through that intersection every day and other than a time or two a month ago where a K-spewing Mercedes was at the light, there hasn't been any K band there. So, if 3 times is the charm, it must have counted the 2 times a month ago plus this time as the requisite 3 times, which isn't right, since a cop could set up a speed trap in the same location 3 times over the course of a month and the Plus (and presumably the 9500ix, GX65, 9500ci etc.) would lock him out.

Nope, neither of those. I have never hit the mute button in that location, and no one else has driven my car.

Another, similar gripe with autolock: when the speed trailer is set up, it's usually there for a few days in a row, then it's moved. So, if I drive past it regularly, the Plus locks it out, and I have to unlock it manually. But after I drive past it 3 more times, it locks it out again. Belscort should make it so that if you manually unlock a signal, it flags it as not eligible for autolocking in the future.

Anyway, I turned autolock off so problem "solved" for now...

I had one of my 9500ixs lock out a K band Trooper. He was behind me, the ix alerted, dropped the signal, alerted again, dropped the signal, then on the third alert, it locked it out. It all happened in about 1/2 to 3/4 mile area. A lot of traffic. I was freaked out to say the least. By the time I realized what had happened, the Trooper had already passed me as I was taking an off-ramp, so no more signal. I guess it unlocked it later, as I haven't ever seen K band there since.

By turning off autolock, you have also turned off auto-unlock, which could save your butt one day.

Wrong, according to EscortRadar unlearning occurs whether AutoLearn is on or off.

I'm not sure why it stored the speed trailer so quickly. I doubt the Mercedes had anything to do with it although it is possible. Have you tried using the Police Verification tool in Detector Tools yet? It should give you some data about what it detected at that location.

Manually unstoring the lockout should have weighted it heavily in the database, causing the location to not be stored again for more than 3 passes.

Bigalinwv is correct, disabling AutoLearn (AutoLock) does not disable unstoring falses that have changed. Unstoring cannot be disabled.

Curiously, why do you not want the speed trailer locked out?

Because it only stays in one place for a few days, then it gets moved. Plus you never know if they'll remove the trailer and put a real LEO with a radar gun in that same spot, and I wouldn't want that to be locked out.

I have been keeping my Police Verification dumps in an Access database. Next time I pull that info I'll look and see what kind of signals it's picked up in that location in the past.
