How come nobody likes the GX65?

Hello,
I am fairly new to the forum but have been reading it for a long time. A few months ago I decided that I needed a radar detector and after a lot of research I decided to go with the GX65 and have since loved it. It has saved me numerous times from K, Ka and Laser, the red light camera and speed trap databases are also very accurate. On this forum though I don't see much love for the GX, many people prefer the 9500ix. Why is that?

I took a long time to decide between the two and ended up with the 9500ix. I could have taken either. I do not think there is a lot of difference between the two.

....which you are better off without. I think the bels tones and the "look" of the rd hurt it too. Don't get me wrong, I like and use bel rd's.

I agree. One reason I bought the 9500ix was for the lock feature, but now that I have it, I am not so thrilled.

I almost bought one when Circuit City was going out of business but they didn't come down enough to suit me.

The blue display. Belscort hit the nail on the head by offering that on their detectors.

My information from this forum and research is that the 9500ix has slightly more sensitivity and range (see guys of lidar test) as well as the autolearn feature and blue display. Personal preference lead me to buy the GX65. For one, I like the red display over the blue and did not want to buy a 9500i and spend additional money to convert it to a 9500ix just to get the red display. Second, the supposed fraction of extra range I did not think would make a difference in a real world situaton based on my driving habits and Third, the autolearn feature was not worth an extra thirty dollars for me. Plus I preferred the styling of the GX65.

In retrospect, althoug I initially lameted not having the autolearn feature, based on the reports from those that have the feature concerning unwanted lockouts, it seems I made an unknowingly good choice not to opt for the feature with extra dollars.

So, in answer to your question, I like my GX65. It has saved me countless times from all manners of radar and mobile lidar with the exception of one mobile lidar encounter that I have posted about on this forum and I think the only thing that could have probably saved me from that mobile lidar encounter would have been LI's.

Escort's alert sounds, voice alerts and ramp-up are better than Bel's (with certain exceptions like the STi series).

Does the GX65 ramp up properly to full strength (solid tone) for the audio alerts, or is it like the RX65 that sounds like it's only at 50% strength when the meter is pegged?

The differences that I can think of off the top of my head are:

GX65:
Power cord plugs in on the right
Display is red
No autolearn (requires manual input of false alarms)
Male Voice

9500ix:
Power cord plugs in on the left
Display is blue
Autolearn
SpeedAlert Speed Display (displays current speed when receiving an alert)
Female Voice
