Default Bel RX-65 versus Escort 8500 Classic versus 8500 X50

Bel RX-65 versus Escort 8500 Classic versus 8500 X50...how these compare and differ has really confused me. I want to get a RX-65 now for travel given it seems to do QT/IO better than the X50...but I always thought they were essentially the same. Furthermore, I also read many people prefer the 8500 and that the RX had or has the first 8500 series circuitry. Can someone clarify? Is the RX-65 better than the 8500 and 8500 X50? I have both of them and am curious how they all differ.

    Two platforms. M4 and S7.

The S7 is the older platform and the M4 is newer. I guess it's possible that some of the older RX65's used the S7 platform, but I had one of the earlier RX65's and while I didn't check the FCC ID, it behaved much like my 9500ix M4 platform. (my RX65 was 05-ish?)

If the newer RX's detect QT better than the X50, it's probably software because I'm pretty sure they both run on the M4 platform.

The older 8500 unit should be an S7. (I own an older S7 X50) I prefer the off axis detection and smooth ramp-up from the S7 platform myself. The M4 gives good range too, but it's ramp up is annoying and usually unhelpful when trying to locate the LEO.

The RX65(S7) is to the 8500/X50(S7), as the STi-R Plus is to the 9500ci.

That is to say it has an option very similar to Band Seg & RDR-off which make it a much more responsive detector. USA mode is very similar to running the STi-R Plus with Ka segments 2/5/8 enabled and turning RDR off.

In this configuration the RX65(S7) is almost as quick as the V1 vs. K-Band and faster than the V1 vs. Ka-Band with the V1 running with Ka Guard on.

In head to head comparisons with the V1 it trails by a small margin against on-axis shots and leads by a small margin against around the bend (off-axis) encounters. Extreme off-axis is not even close........that S7 horn has a wider field of view compared to the front horn in the V1.

Escort Radar Forum - View Single Post - RX65(S7) vs. V1(3.872) Part 2

Running the RX65 in USA mode will generate the occasional 33.7 false from a passing Cobra or a 35.4 false from a Whistler, but it is relatively rare and immediately apparent when running in tech mode. The V1 can be taken to the next level by turning Ka guard off, but turning off POP is a must and even then it will false a bit more than the RX65 in USA mode. The difference is you have no idea what frequency the V1 is alerting to.

Like with the STi-R Plus, the quicker response time of the RX65(S7) can lead to a significant range boost. Combined with it's ability to catch short duration IO, I think it's the best balanced windshield mount yet produced by Belscort! The only drawback with this detector is a relatively understated rampup.

I bought an RX-65 S7 refurb a couple weeks ago as a gift for my daughter. Understandably, I want to be comfortable with it before I trust her driving record to it. I get another month to play. YAY!

So far, it really smokes. The accolades in the previous post are no exaggeration. With the exception of its' lame RampUp; it would be ideal as a back-up to a V-1, its' behavior is so similar.

It truly is as good of a value as a V-1. (for beep-n-wonder, anyway)
    Fortunately, I could afford a V-1

This is new to me... Whistlers cause falses @ 35.4?

I've had a couple 35.3-35.4 falses recently, maybe that's what it is? Certainly they don't false as badly as Cobras though. Nothing does!

This is where the emissions from the newer Whistlers show up according to Michael B. Supposedly, detectors like the 78se will transmit CW 35.4 if you put it into menu mode.

I get these hits very occasionally in traffic with the RX65 in USA mode. I assume that with it's blistering fast Ka reaction time, it's catching a brief whiff of a passing Whistler. The alerts are 35.4x (in areas where there is no 35.5) and are always brief.

I can confirm it, on Tech Mode or Spec Mode, it shows around 35.401-35.408 nearly all the time when you press the Menu button. For some reason V1s do not react to it.

Wait, the RX65's run S7 horns? I thought S7's went extinct? I still have and love mine, but I bought it 6 years ago.
