STiR Plus Install Questions & Setup Questions

Hey Guys,

I'm installing the STiR Plus on the 2011 Cayenne Turbo tonight and tomorrow, but I only have until Noon tomorrow to finish it up. I have the door sills all out and I've begun the process of running the wires and I just have a few questions.

1) I spoke to my buddies Mom and she doesn't see any need for the display to be used with the unit. She said just wire it up and throw it in the glovebox, that way I can tweak settings and whatnot and make sure everything is workign properly but not have a display on the dash. Are there any major issues anyone can foresee with doing this?

2) I'm looking to keep this unit as quiet as possible, and I told her that I can tweak the settings because I recalled reading about disabling the bands that are only in Europe, which ones are these?

I'm also going to turn off the red light cameras, I can still keep the speed camera option on and disable the red light cameras correct?

3) What else can I do to keep this thing as quiet as possible? I'm thinking about disabling x-band, or is there a way to disable x-band only below 50mph?

Not sure exactly why your buddy's mom wants an RD then - no display, as quiet as possible? Here's an idea - keep it for yourself and tell her you did a super-stealth install.

In all honesty, she may be missing the point.

The STi-R Plus ships with Ku (Europe) disabled. Do some research about your area and disable bands that aren't in use.

Most likely you can turn off x band as long as your not going through ohio or new jersey.

No you can't make x band off for going under 50 mph

I found a spot to put the display, as for it being quiet and out of sight she just wants it as a peace of mind thing because she is doing a lot of highway driving and that car feels like it is going 25mph when you are in fact going 75mph.

What about GPS antenna mounting, is there anywhere I could put it inside? There are already two other antennas outside the car for cell and OEM Satellite so I don't have much space to run wires. I know since it is just a GPS antenna that some installers put them right under the dash, is that okay to do?

Most of the time GPS needs to be in a open area back window front window to lock on you can try it anywhere but it could drop if you hide it more time

I put my GPS antenna underneath the package shelf behind the back seats. It's plastic/cardboard with a metal brace below it that I attached the magnet too. No impact to reception - it locks in within a few seconds. Under a plastic dash should work just fine.
