Thank you Jim. The new design seems to be a significant change.

I later found that some of my guesses in that thread about the differences between the two were incorrect. For example, some of what I though was filtering in the M4 ended up being the addition of a dedicated oscillator for Ku band. Not that it matters to those in the US, but that gave a big boost on Ku, for people who face it as a threat.

How did you find that one out. You have a internal spy at Bell ? Seperate KU band oscillator? Well I guess that might be neccesary to cover that much higher upper band.

Does the V-1 hae a intenational edition and does mike V and his crew do this as well?

That info was provided to me by another forum member who measured it on the test bench (he knows who he is ).

There's no separate V1 for international users, but the regular unit has several international options that can be configured by someone using a V1 outside of the US. There's no dedicated Ku oscillator in the V1, as far as I know they just bypass a mixer that is normally used when receiving other bands. I'm pretty sure this is what the RX-65 did before the addition of the Ku oscillator, it just didn't work as well in that unit as it does in the V1.

Ya I think i know who your talking about now. So that's how v1 does it. I think as you mentioned before a seperate KU band mixer is a nice feature for a international addition. Not needed as you say but nice to have.
