    Default Bel v995 and TSR

I bought a new V995 on clearance from Radio Shack last week for $80.00. A great deal I couldn't pass up as I was in the market for a new RD. It turns out that it doesn't have TSR. I guess that means they were clearing out old stock. I suppose it's not a big deal (especially at that price). I'm wondering how chatty my detector is going to get around Chicago once I hit the traffic flow system. It's been incredibly quiet, so far. Anyone have any experience this particular unit and these types of systems? Particularly anyone from the windy city?

    Thanks in advance.

    Keith

Are you sure that it doesn't have TSR? Go into the "bands" settings in the preferences menu of the detector. If TSR is a band listed then enable it. See the quick reference card on the first page of your owners manual if you need help doing this.

We can install TSR into your V995 as long as the FCCID of your V995 is not QL4G1S7 (FCCID is located on the serial number label under the detector). If the FCCID is QL4G1S7 then it uses our older S7 antenna and cannot have TSR installed. Call us at the number in my signature below to set up TSR installation.

Mine ends in M4. I definitely don't have TSR. My list goes from SWS straight back to X. Or maybe Laser and then X. But there's no TSR. Is this something that can be installed by computer or do I have to send it in? Covered by the warranty or is there a fee?

Thanks for all the help. This community has been very responsive. And a goldmine of a find.

You will have to send it in to us to have TSR installed. This is not covered under warranty. The fee is $99.95. You can call us at the number below to set it up.

There is a strong community of detector users on this and other forums.

Yep. Customer service looked up my serial number. While my unit is completely new in box and TSR compatible, it was made in 2009. As such, I would have to pay the upgrade fee to get TSR. I have to say, that while I understand the policy, it's a bit disappointing that on a completely new unit, the newest firmware wouldn't be covered. On the other hand, I'm impressed that the firmware is upgradable at all. I won't be investing in it, currently, as i don't commute downtown often enough to justify the expense. If I was a daily city commuter, I would definitely invest in it. Frankly, I probably would have invested in the GX65 if I did the kind of driving I used to do before I moved closer to work.

    Thanks, again, for the replies.

As far as I know, the traffic flow systems around Chicago don't use radar. There are plenty of other things that will cause false alarms.

If you drive past the junction, there are boxes running through the middle dividers that set off x band (if I'm remembering correctly) alerts at regular intervals. If they're not for traffic flow, I'm not sure what else they're there for. They've been setting off my older detector since I moved back to Chicago.

How many posts do I have to make before a moderator does not have to approve direct replies to a comment? When I try, I receive a note stating that a moderator needs to approve my comment. Then nothing ever shows?

Anyway. I realize that Chicago uses acoustic nodes for the majority of it's traffic sensors, but headed into the city (or out) once you pass the junction, there are x band radars (they might be K but I recall them as x) that are set up at regular intervals along the express lanes and el tracks. These may have nothing to do with traffic but they used to trigger my previous radar dector on every trip in or out of the city.

I turn x band off as it isn't used around Chicago and will drive you nuts with false alarms. Also, TSR doesn't work for x band.
