K Band or Laser or malfunction? BEL GX 65

While driving, my radar detector goes off.
It states K-Band.
I see the motorcycle cop pointing an object at me........
Looks like a Lidar Gun....but my Laser detection never goes off. Only K-band goes off.

Question:
Are radar guns stationary or hand held?
Are there such things as radar gun?
Or is my unit defective?

There are hand held k band radar guns. In fact, judging by the picture, it doesnt appear to be a lidar gun by the way hes holding it. See what some other member think as I am no pro but just observing what I see.
If you google hand held k band, there are golden eagle k band guns as well as others. At the close range you were in the picture, If it was laser that close, I doubt the rx65 would have alerted to it.

That's a handheld radar gun. Laser guns are held up to your eye to aim. Turn TSR off if you can (if no TSR sensors are in your area) to get faster K band alert reaction. you can find the TSR setting in the detector's "Bands" settings. To process the TSR signals, enabling TSR adds a 0.5sec K band alert delay and you have I/O K in your area.

Then again, disabling tsr def. helps, but so does upgrading from the rx65 to a better unit. My pro300 gets more than twice the k band range as the rx65 before it...and better ka band as well. I run mine witht sr off and i catch everything.(thankfully none of those tsr in my area)

He said he had a GX65 (now the Pro500) which should detect equally compared to a Pro300. Your RX65 needs serviced if your Pro300 beats it by that much.

I'm rolling an rx-65... we have a serious traffic drone problem in the bay area, so TSR is a must. When enabled the difference in k band detection times for me is no more than 1000ft. The detection capabilities between the rx-65, 300 and 500 are marginal at best... if you have one of these and it's functioning properly there is no need to upgrade from one to another. Of course the GPS function is a game changer and the GX-65 is going to bump up detection capability to that near a 9500ix... but this comes at a price $$$.

I would love to have a GPS capable detector and Escort Live, but the cost vs. the excellect performance of my rx-65 has kept me from upgrading. Bay Area CHP uses Stalker for Ka band and my rx-65 sniffs these turkeys out like nobody's business. Would I like to lock out alerts from the stationary radar signs in my neighboorhood.. yes, but once again not for $$$ when truth be told... I have an excellent counter measure in use.

Unreal...how can you even compare the rx65 and pro300....if your pro300 is anything like mine, I get double the k band range with my pro 300 vs rx65 andway better ka range also...maybe you have a bad pro300 unit. cause to say theres only amarginal difference tells me you don't really own a pro300 or you would not have wrote that statement. and yes tsr will not effect the range by much but will add a second delay and will miss instant on k band shots....period...so for constant on tsr don't matter but any other situation it does matter. my pro300 gets MORE than double thek band range as my rx65.(ver 6.5)
and the gps detector you will lse range compared to an rx65 or a pro300....it may be quieter but performance will suffer...look at any testing especially from eccgt group results and youll see
