Its been abit of a problem on these forums for along time as soon as you hi post quick reply it comes up with a message saying you have to wait 15 seconds in between posts. so what has really happen is when you hi post quick reply it has already sent your post. don't push the button again or you will end up with two of the same a (duplicate post) hope this makes sense.
My sense, as reading this forum for many years, is that forum members see Beltronics STI Driver/Magnum as something old, belonging to the past, some sort of old technology that mostly seniors should use, when Escort RedLine and most of other Escort products are for young, progressive, cool, hip, pro-marijuana ppl. Same like the old divide: conservative vs. liberal/progressive, right?

Im not sure about that one mate each to there own i guess.

With the delete post issue, personally I was part of the 2005-2009 RD.net forum when it used to be run directly by Roy, I remember when I left the forum Roy had sold it to the current owner and very shortly the entire forum (website) got a full and total make-over, the old forum used to be user-friendly, no idea about the new version.

Interesting i think i remember that site it used to be green i think.

I'm Canadian and live in Toronto, my YT Channel and 'About' Profile says a lot about myself.

    https://www.beltronics.com/store/sti-magnum.html

Why did you pay double the price for your Magnum? Are taxes so high in NZ?

There are no speed cameras in Ontario or pretty much anywhere in the States, and I think I do have "some" sort of such knowledge:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=69-sS7p1FAw

Speed Cameras used to be on Ontario Roads until 1995 when Ontario Conservatives outlawed them all as soon as they came to power in that year, no speed camera since then, I know they run on K-band but personally I'm not interested in such videos as I don't have to deal with that stuff in real life AT ALL.

KPH in Canada as well but no big deal to learn and easily adapt to MPH system in the States, all Canadian car models have the speedometer in KPH and MPH also switching the Garmin GPS from KPH to MPH when in the States:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJF1Bjp2HxI

You have posted lots of YT links but which one is YOURS including a very short one, so I will easily ID your YT Channel.

Personally I have ZERO to learn from this forum anymore, for me it was extremely useful at the beginning in 2005 after I had purchased my very first RD, yes it's very good for RD and LJ manufacturers to market their products directly to their base, but for a VERY experienced RD user, it's just a way to kill some time (read: when you are bored) reading thru the threads and posts w/o anything new you are not aware of yet.

Are RDs illegal in NZ? I think the answer is YES, that's why you went for a STI Magnum, right? Excellent choice BTW.

    Drive safely out there.

Radar Detectors are very legal in New Zealand however , there was talk of them being outlawed so that was just one of the reasons i went with the magnum. The other reason is i like the Beltronics style the tones and i didn't like the lip on the Redline.
I also went with the magnum because they say it picks up the low powered K band speed cameras by Redflex i am yet to see this happen. I also really liked Beltronics STi driver i had a loan of it from my cusin , was a really great detector that was back in 2008.
Plus my Escort 8500 X50 Blue was really good at picking up Ka 34.7 but it kept falseing alot on ka 33.8 peoples cheap ass detectors. It was very annoying I hate false alerts thats one of the reasons why i didn't like the V1.

    My Youtube Channel is Jackcc5

I think Radar detectors cost more here because of the currency exchange and then there is the shipping and ratail markup costs.
I brought my detector from a Auto store called Repco i was like well if i am going to pay 1000 dollars for a detector it better get it from a store. That way if anything goes wrong i can take it back or take em to count if things go wrong.

I also really like the fact that the Magnum hardly ever falses due to the fact that i can turn off X ban and K ban when driving in the city i don't use TSR as there is no need to so that's off. and it seems to filter out the cheap detectors on KA ban.

So adlest 98% percent of the time its a REAL alert and I can trust my detector I really vaule that and the off axis detection.

I normally only get say 1.2 or 2 km warning this is manly because of the terrain and the fact that our cops love using instant on radar. some times they use constant on but its a abit of a 50/50 got to see the eyes as well yea.

My STI DRIVER has always been set (by me of course) on H (Highway) regardless I drive in the city or highway, X OFF, K ON (OPP uses K-band Radar), Ka ON (Toronto Police Ka 33.8 MPH Radar), Laser ON, POP OFF, SWS OFF.

No idea IF any difference in performance/range (K and Ka) btwn STI Driver and STI Magnum that will justify selling my still-EXCELLENT STI Driver and getting the Magnum. So far no intention on doing the switch.

Personally I hate RedLine's Design, that whatever "lip" looks like **** to me, plus I've heard its ramp-up is pretty ugly compared to Driver/Magnum's ramp-up I am so used to since 2006.

My STI Driver is built 50/08, when is your Magnum built, the last four digits of the S/N as seen at the back of the RD.

    Be safe out there.

The last four digits of my magnum are 2613 not sure exactly what that means. Yes i run mine in Highway or auto scan just because i like the look of auto scan on the display lol. Oh by the way my Beltronics STi Magnum is an XR which has been tuned for Australia and New Zealand. Not sure exactly how or what modification they have done to tune it. I think it only has extended K band range scanning don't no what else. I have asked Radar Roy and Beltronics but i have had no reply as of yet.

I might of gone with the Redline because of the Band Segmentation on Ka band they say it makes the detector pick up faster.
And gives it better range but I have looked up comparison videos and it doesn't seem like makes much of a difference.

Plus i Really love the Beltronics Tones nice and easy on the ears Ka band is the one i really like.

I would really like a blue display however its one of the things i miss about my Escort 8500 X50 the blue display was easyer on the eyes at night time. I didn't mine the added cost it was well worth it.

26th week of 2013, so June or July 2013, very new and obviously with latest updates whatever they might be. Congrats.

Question: can Magnum's software be updated (for future software/fixes releases, if any) over the Internet using the USB cable? similar with updating Garmin's Maps every 3 months.

Beltronics Radar Detectors :: Performance Rules

As we can see no Magnum XR therefore I'm absolutely sure it's something related to an International Version that pretty much covers the specifics of your country, NZ, you bought it from a NZ Authorized Dealer, right? obviously they legally ordered it from Beltronics and therefore Beltronics has installed the software for NZ and maybe nicknamed it XR. Where does it say Magnum XR, on the box, unit itself (front or back?), software or all of the above?

Using Beltronics STI Driver since Sept 2006, bought the first one directly from Roy when he was still the sole owner of this very forum, the current one (built 50/08) I'm using it today I bought it from a Truck Stop in Laredo, TX and no intention on abandoning the Beltronics STI Driver/Magnum anytime soon. Maybe next year I will decide on upgrading my Driver to Magnum software, I've heard this option is available by calling directly Beltronics and ordering the upgrade, $100 I think, I've heard they install the latest Magnum software plus some other little things included in the upgrade. Will see...

Mine is hardwired and always up high by the sun visor using a visor mount.

Thanks very much but at the same time it better be new i payed a very high price for it $1000 is a lot of money its the most ive ever spent on a radar detector. that's not to say that im unhappy with it.

I don't no if it can be upgraded there doesn't appear to be a usb port on the side of it just the power port and the head phone jack. You might have to do some investigation in to this.

Beltronics STi Magnum XR NZ-AUS Yes i believe it is a software/firmware mod for the magnum.

not sure if it is worth upgrading to magnum software or not. but they say it is an improvment.
would be good to test side by side the driver and the magnum.

Yep i also keep mine mounted up high on the sun visor with a visor mount. gives it a clear view of the road plus if a cops pulls u up its more or less hidden from view.

When i take it to work i use the stickycup i can't use a hardwire kit at work as we aren't allowed to use detectors are we can't allowed to tap in to the wiring. they are leased vehicles so i just use the lighter plug and the sticky cup.
And the new sticky cup is working well by the way.

You've already done the physical "investigation" for me LOL Thank you very much.

Yours is XR NZ/AUS, I think for ppl in EU there is XR EU as well, no idea if NZ/AUS police radar bands/frequencies are different than EU police radar bands/frequencies to make the NZ/AUS software/firmware different than EU software/firmware. It might be just one XR software/firmware for ALL International Units, right?

Canada and USA: police radar units and bands/frequencies are all the same (identical), therefore RDs for U.S. market are the same as for the Canadian market. Maybe that's why a Magnum costs $500 (before taxes and shipping) and not $1K like in NZ.

$100 for the upgrade, $500 (minus trade-in option) for a brand-new Magnum, a brand-new Magnum is outta question for me unless my Driver suddenly dies on me, but for the upgrade I'll give it a thought for next spring/summer. As we speak I have other things to spend my money on, and anything NEW in the RD market, for me is not a necessity at all.

Hardwired up by the sun visor for max detection range for your own vehicle, and for a company car or leased vehicle still up on the windshield but as you said using a suction cup and the normal cigarette lighter power cord. For legal areas like NZ of course cause in the illegal jurisdictions like AUS or Canada or EU, etc., using the suction cup and the regular cigarette lighter power cord is outta question.

RDs VERY illegal in my area, Ontario, using the STI Driver for 7+ years now, when you know how to properly and smartly do it, no issues whatsoever. And b/c RDs very illegal in Ontario for 30+ years, cops don't have the need to use I/O, and C/O as you know is very easily detectable. Less than 0.1% of ppl use RDs in Ontario.

    Be safe out there.
