    Default STI Observations

I got my STI yesterday from Beltronics. It is version A2M8. They shipped it the same day I ordered and it arrived two days later. I was waiting to order from Roy but I am going on a trip in a couple of days and I didn't want to be naked.

I installed it using the supplied windshield mount. This seems to be a good method for a C6 Corvette. The suction cups can be put behind the tint strip and then the business end of the RD has a clear shot through the windshield. The rear facing laser sensor may or may not work because the horizontal cross section of the rear hatch is very small. Looking in the rear view mirror about covers it all.

The electrical connection was hard wired to the plug in the back of the rear view mirror which contains among other things a ignition switched +12v and a ground. The connection was made by soldering d-sub pins to the wires supplied with the RD after cutting off a suitable length with connector from the supplied direct wire harness. For anyone else going this route the two middle wires in the connector are the +12V (red) and ground (green). The pins can then be jammed into the crimped metal in the back of the rear view mirror connector where the original wires are connected. The unit draws about .25-3 amps when just sitting there looking for a signal and about .4-.46 amps when powering up the audio and visual alerts..

I have put about 100 miles after installation but so far the only thing it has picked up are several K band signals from various stores. This was on autosense. On the way back I used the city mode in this area and it picked up nothing. I tried going by the places where the LEO's usually hang out but no one was around. Maybe there is a donut festival today I am unaware of. The laser sensor did respond to my Laser Pro Golf Range finder although I did not try to see haw far away it could be sensed.

When I finally come upon some real radar/laser traps I'll post my observations.

Have not gotten any. This is probably a bad place to test for this as since radar detectors are illegal in Va there are not too many around.

    Great info!

You said you got K band "falses", but you switched into city mode and it filtered them out! So does this mean that Bel came to there bloody senses and put K band filtering back into city mode! Horay!!! That would be great news. Reviews like this may prompt me to get a STi after all.

Bel did something new(new to me but might be old for others) with the STI, in city mode, it now filters K band and X band per manual. A big difference from the RX65 as far as filtering K band in city mode.

Ron, do you have another detector aside from the STI? I can make my STI false alert on Ka band around the 35.5 frequency range with my X50. I turn on my STI first and turn the X50 next. It always gives me a false alert on start up but does not do it after that.

No I don't have another detector available since I sold my other car with a remote set up.

I almost got a Sti off of ebay last weekend. Buy it now (new in box) for $419.00 and shipping was free. The reason I even thought about it was because it came with the sales reciept from a bel dealer. The seller has great feedback but since my 985 has been so good to me I couldn't part with the money.

I also live in VA and I'm a little worried about getting busted but the last report is only 9 spec units in VA, I'm going to roll the dice for a while longer and hope I don't get caught.
