Unfortunately I have a bad experience; hold on... wait till you've read the entire thread before assuming.
Yesterday I went out and bought my STI. I was seriously speeding. To make a long story short. My STI pikced up a laser hit and instead of hitting the brakes hard like I should have I got nailed for doing 149KM/H in a 100KM/H zone.
Here are the particulars and I am hoping that some Ontario readers can help me out as I give more particulars about what happened.
The pig "cop" sorry that's what I call them, because in my opinion all they are interested in is being extra tax collector for the government and many of them are dirty; and please don't waste you time trying to convince me otherwise.
Anyways it was dark low visibility I was over zealous because I had my STI but I guess no matter how good your detector is if you are speeding to high your going to get caught especially at the speeds I was going at. Laser warning came on initially I should have slowed down immediately I didn't.
What I did in my defense was ask the cop for the serial number type of laser model of the laser gun and asked him to see the reading.
Here in Ontario having and rd is illegal. So not only was I facing a ticket but the possible confiscation of my rd which I forked out almost 500US for. So immediately I unhooked the unit it and put it under my seat; but I was careless and still had the box on the floor which she shined his flashlight on. I immediately started talking to him to distract him from the box hoping he would not search my car. I was very very fortunate I guess he didn't know what the box was and I had already hidden the dectector. So at least I avoided a double ticket situation, but as most of you know getting a ticket is never pleasant ruined my evening that's for sure.
This is the part that kills me. The reading on the laser said 110KM/H not 149KM/H He told me that there was nothing saying that he had to show me the reading of 149. This really bothered me and I'm going to be fighting the ticket.
So did the STI do its job. Yeah I guess so.. I would have liked farther range however laser isn't something you can get a "range" on till they hit you with it. So it definitely did its job...
Morale of this story; if you speed don't do it to crazily ... I already know about the ticket area on this forum and I'm in the process of checking it out. For those of you in Ontario here is the location of where my court hearing will be;
21633 Communication road
I'll be looking for someone to represent me obviously. If you guys know of someone please let me know!
