Yes I know, this is supposedly discussed at length in this message board site, but I have yet to find a clear thread. When the moderators read this, please feel free to post links to helpful threads.
The question of the day is: where on the windshield is the best place to mount your RX65.
The manual says HIGH, or at least high enough for the detector to be able to see out your back window. From what I can tell, this mounting has the following pros and cons (Anyone else, please feel free to add to these pros and cons):
PROS of the High Mount: 1) you will pick up more radar signals of patrol cars coming up from behind, and 2) the high mount gives a little better forward range.
CONS of the High Mount: 1) it can block your vision while driving, 2) everyone will see it in your windshield and may use you to lead the pack, 3) not as good at detecting laser radar (but does this really matter .. once you are hit, you're as good as ticketed, right?).
Many other people say to mount the RX65 low on the windshield. Here are the PROS and CONS of that:
PROS of the Low Mount: 1) it frees up your windshield for you to see better, 2) fewer people (and cops) will see that you have it, 3) it may help detect laser radar.
CONS of the Low Mount: 1) will not detect rear threats as well, 2) decreases the forward range.
I do not claim to be an expert here, but I hope this new thread will capture mine and others comments on this topic in an easy to search, find and read about thread.
Thanks... and happy cruising!!
