    Default Smart cord?

I just purchased the V895, and I'm considering hardwiring the detector.

I see that there are a couple of different hardwiring cords: One for under or around $10....and another, which they lable a "Smart Cord" for around $30!

Can someone please tell me the differences, benefits of the Smart Cord, what it does and if it is really worth the price difference?

    Thanks

Hi SportsFan, be careful where you mount it, for laser detection the best is to have it very low, on the dash or very low on the windshield, for the conventional radar (X, K, Ka bands) as high as possible (for longer range)... and as for your real question, unfortunatelly I live in an area where 100% cordless is my only way to go, so no clue about hardwiring...
    Happy Easter my friend

Smart cord is the one that you can raise/lower the volume on the cigarette lighter plug in, shows you power, alert, lets you mute the signal etc. You can also get it in a hardwired version also.

I thought you could raise and lower the volume by hitting the mute button?

The SmartPlug accessory is a unique power cord with a power-on indicator, an alert lamp that warns you of radar and laser, and a convenient mute button right on the lighter plug! It's the perfect addition for any car when reaching the detector's mute button on the windshield is a stretch. Also, for discreet night driving, put your Bel RX-65 detector in the dark mode, and use the SmartPlug for visual alerts. Other drivers won't know you have a detector.

mute the turns off the alert, you cant control the volume through the smart cord, pretty useless if you can reach the mute button on the detector itself

Thanks for the info, guys. And happy Easter to you as well, Road Warrior.

So, from what it sounds like....it's more or less kind of a novelty type item, but not exactly "useful" or what one might consider practical (if, like f_399 says, you can view and reach the detector). It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the programming of the features and/or software, so it's really just the "convenience" factor....is that about right?
