    Default blinder install question

I have a question, I have my blinders installed in my car so they are flush with the front of the hood. They are still parallel and level but I was wondering. Would I get a performance increase in a brought them out farther? How far back do the LEDs sit from the front of the lens? Here is a picture of what I am talking about.

As long as the sensors are mounted straight, level and have a clear look at the road, they should perform the same in both positions. Mounted slightly further back shouldn't hamper either the Blinder's detection ability, or it's ability to fire back, so performance should be exactly the same. Maybe someone can let me know if I'm missing something.

I don't see where the second option would offer any benefits as long as there are no other obstructions blocking the view.

The best way to know for sure, I believe, would be to shoot your present set-up with an IR cam from all angles, and see if both heads are alerting. If they are, then there is no benefit to be achieved by pushing them out. But if you find plausible angles (overpass, below grade, 45 degree off-axis) where one or both heads are not firing, then improvement can possibly be achieved by pushing them out a bit. It really all depeds on whether or not parts of the grille or body trim are blocking a head from specific angles or not. What works perfectly from straight ahead (which is rare for a real police encounter) may not work at all for an overpass or on-ramp shot.

well the only reason I ask is because me and alpine did some testing. The interesting part is that when being shot on the front of the car we got punch troughs ranging from 350-650 feet. Yet on the roof line I was 200-JTG and the drivers side mirror was the same thing. I though that the roof and mirror would be worse than the front. And another thing we discovered is that if we angled the heads down more instead of level we got lower numbers.

the only other idea I had is that maybe the jammers are to close together exposing the rest of the car. They are in the blue right now but maybe I should place them in the white or if I could put them in the green. but unless I cut something there is no chance. just as a fiy, from the outside the blue square to the edge of the lights, it's 20".

Well I decided to redo my install. Maybe when me and alpine get together again, we can try it this way and see what the results are. Here is the new install, I know it is not really stealth, but we are trying to stealth the car not the heads.

I think your updated setup will provide way better performance.

that's what I was thinking but I will now know until more testing is done. The only thing I don't like about this is that they stick out like sore thumbs. But what can you do.

To us they do. To the average person, including the average cop, they'll never notice them. Especially on the front. Since you don't run a front LP in MI, cops probably never even go up there to look anyhow. Hell, people don't even notice the light bar on top of marked police cars. I think the chances of many people ever noticing those heads are slim. But hey, nothing illegal with parking sensors! Shows you're a conscientious driver!

I'm not convinced that this set-up will give you significantly improved performance. Might not even be as good. But all options are worth a try!
