How and why does the blinder work?
A police laser gun sends out a series of infrared pulses, genrally hundreds per second. The gun then times how long it takes for these pulses to reflect off of the vehicle and back to the laser gun. Since the speed of light is a known value, the gun can determine the distance to the vehicle using this technique. By comparing the change in distance measurements over time, the laser gun can determine the speed of the vehicle.Originally Posted by Andrew
The Blinder and other laser jammers detect the pulses from the laser gun, and send back their own pulses that are accepted by the laser gun as their own reflected pulses. By timing these pulses correctly, the jammer is able to "confuse" the gun so that it cannot calculate a speed reading.
