Default Seeking Info/Tips/Advice On Blinder M27 x-treme Install in 2008 BMW M3 Sedan...

    Aloha all.
I need information/advice/tips from others that have installed a Blinder M27 x-treme in a 2008 or newer BMW M3 E92 coupe. I installed a Blinder M25 with Cheetah wireless in this same car (still installed) but hit a piece of recap tire that was laying in the road and it apparently damaged one or both of the heads, as the jammer has not worked since. I bought the latest version Blinder M27 x-treme and have heard it is a little more complicated to install. I would like to hear from others with info, advice and tips on how to make the M27 install better and quicker.

On the Blinder M25 that is currently installed on my M3, I mounted the heads in the grille recess immediately on either side of the license plate holder. The unit performed great in this location providing JTG every time, right up to the moment it was damaged. Where I need info/tips/advice most, is on pulling the wire from the heads up through the engine compartment, without taking the front shroud all the way off, if possible. Also, any info why the CPU cannot be located under the hood in the engine compartment would be appreciated. I bought the Cheetah wireless unit with the M27 so I would not have to make any wire runs through the firewall, and if I put the CPU inside the cockpit (as Blinder's instructions say), then I have to make holes or find holes in the firewall to run wire through. I placed the CPU for the M25 in the engine compartment in a weathertight box that came with the unit. I would like to install the M27 the same way.

Many thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge and insight on installation of this unit.

If you got a wireless unit compatible with the M27 then the install will be identical.

Thanks. I bought another Cheetah wireless unit for the M27. I also used a Cheetah wireless unit with the M25, but was told by Cheetah that the wireless unit that worked with the M25 would not work with the M27.

When I purchased the M25, it came with a plastic weathertight box to mount the CPU in under the hood. I received the new M27 I ordered, and it did not come with a weathertight box, and the instructions say that the CPU should be mounted inside the car, not under the hood "because of heat and moisture risk". I am thinking that I will install the new M27 CPU in the same weathertight box that the M25 CPU is mounted in. Any thoughts on that?

If you are intent on using the wireless system, I using the weather proof box that you have yould be a great idea. At least it will offer some protection to the CPU from the elements.

Truthfully, if it were me, I would exclude the wireless system from the install. A simpler system should also be more reliable, and provide an easier install. Most people are worried about drilling holes in the firewall, which shouldn't be required. All you would need to do is folow the wiring harness in the engine compartment to the firewall. You can dislodge the grommet that is already there and run your wires through the existing hole.

I would use the weathertight box, and keep it as far away from heat sources as I could.
