Default Blinder M27 effective through clear plastic motorcycle windscreen?

Due to serious space constraint above the front wheel fender and below the nose of the bike, I may have little choice but to install the front blinder unit behind the clear plastic windscreen. (it's not tinted or dark or reflective, just the stock clear screen)

I've read the blinder must have an unobstructed view of the road ahead, understood, but is it possible that it will be effective if behind the clear windscreen? The type of plastic is probably important right? all of the lasers involved are in the IR band I assume.

    Any input is welcome.

I guess you could find out exactly what type of plastic it is, like if it has UV protection capabilities and is slightly tinted. Or found the plastics type/specs and see if infrared light passes through it. Better safe than sorry!

I would hesitate to install Blinder heads behind plastic unless the plastic was specifically designed to allow IR light to penetrate. As Dr Coke said, probably asking for trouble.

Show us a pic of the front of your bike. There has to be a way for the head to be outside of the bike. You'll get better results. What state are you in?

One member tried this with a PASS system some time ago. He had one head unobstructed but we were getting consistent 500+ ft PTs when aiming at his motorcycle and consistent 1000ft PTs when aiming at his helmet. He then added a second PASS head to his gps mount which was located behind the clear windscreen. PTs diminished to 2-300 ft bikeshots and 4-500 ft helmet. I know it's not a Blinder and also know that the PASS system used Laser Diodes. So it's not exactly apples to apples.

I believe another member in Texas tried to mount blinder heads behind the windscreen on his Yamaha R6 and testing proved absolutely abysmal performance. I do not know if his windscreen was polarized. I was also not present during the testing.

I know for a fact the LI will work great behind a non-polarized motorcycle windscreen. Well for my style of motorcycle at least. Tested against TruSpeed, Ultralyte LRB, Pro3 and Laser Atlanta. I would not recommend doing this but I did because I have the means of testing and also, my original mount location resulted in the destruction of one carbon fiber fender. Not cheap....

I would recommend first finding an alternate location for the heads. But if you have no other options, which I highly doubt, the only way for you to find out if it'll work is to mount the head/heads there and test with a variety of guns from different angles. I've done off axis and elevated testing in addition to your typical side of the road location. Again, as the others said, you may be asking for trouble, but no one will know with certainty until you try it.

Again, I absolutely do not recommend that you mount and leave the head/heads behind the windscreen. They are designed to work with an unobstructed view and I know that I may suffer a nasty, unlikely, PT someday.

You are going to get significant PT's.
