My family and I went through hell on Tuesday evening at our new house at aprox 5:00PM.
Three gunmen forced us to the ground took pretty much everything I own, including 2 cars, all my RDs, 10k in cash.
It was my self, my 17 year old son, my 14 year old son, my wife and one of my friends.
I am glad it went the way it did (no one got hurt) but it was a horrible experience.
I did not own any firearms at the time, I sold them as soon as my oldest son reached the age of 2 years.
If I still had them, I wouldn't hesitate to kill 3 human beings.
4 days later I am the proud owner of 2 S&W .45s and a desert eagle .50 (donated)
Its amazing what humans are capable of doing to innocent people.
Any legal advice would be appreciated, I am a bit disappointed with the pima county Sheriff's department and the TPD detectives, where I still haven't looked at mug shots to try to identify the scum bags.
And of course I am fighting with my insurance company because I didn't transfer my policy to the new house I just bought, being that I was in the process of moving...

So my gf (God bless her) bought me a valentine for our anniversary over the weekend. Knowing that I've wanted to get one for a while now to pair with my blinder. So this morning while the car is warming up, I go and take her out of the box, connect her to the visor clip, turn off pop, and begin my trek to work.

There's one section along wilson blvd 4075 Wilson Blvd, Arlington, VA 22203 - Google Maps In which the local LEO's just love to sit. I actually try and avoid this by taking a longer route to get to work, only because I know they are ruthless in the moring and sometime will have two LEO's out running radar/LIDAR at the same time.

So i'm pretty sure that there a chance i'll get a hit this morning, regardless of the fact that it's raining. Sure enough, in the spot shown above there was a LEO that the valentine saw even before I did. The LIDAR indicator started blarring the minute I turned onto Wilson from 10th, although he wasn't hitting me (no alerts from the blinder) the sheer fact that he was there in that cross street running LIDAR I didn't even see him at first was enough to be my wake up call for the morning.

I realized the full scope of what was going on when the threw on his lights and started pursuing the guy next to me. Even though Arlington County PD doesn't have Spectre's, I didn't want my first break-in of my Valentine to end up in getting a nasty fine for it my first day out, so I unplugged her, and pulled it down before the cop could get within visual and vented my sunroof just in case he was close enough to see me doing "something."

I cheered all the way to work, feeling triumphant and pround of my V1. Hands down the best gift i've ever gotten. I think i'm going to keep my gf around for a little while longer. :D

I'm really loving the 9500ix, its so quiet and I have had a few 3+ mi encounters and some very satisfying 1/4mi around the curve encounters too. I have been very impressed with the under 20mph muting, very nice feature.
I highly recommend this unit to anyone.

What the new 9500ix features add over the 9500I:

USB DataPort & Safety Camera Database:

This allows you to update your database, (red light and fixed position speed cameras) and other software from Escorts website. All marked locations in the database will be reported as you approach them. Or you can set it to Selectable Markers (on/off) this allow you to customize which Markers are monitored and you are alerted to.

AutoLearn-TrueLock:

AutoLearn works just like the 9500I’s TrueLock with the addition of the AutoLearn feature analyzing (over time)

the source of radar signals by location and frequency. The ix automatically locks out this source at this particular location after ~3 passes. AutoLearn will also UnLearn signals if a particular signal is no longer present at a location that was previously locked out.

Laser can also be locked out now.

NOTE: AutoLearn typically needs to see the exact frequency in the same location approximately three times to lock it out. Since some door openers are turned on and off routinely, some variations may occur.

A few improvements for mark locations:
Once marked and assigned a label, the ix provides the following alert distances:
• Red Light Cameras = 250’ or 10 seconds
• Speed Cameras = 250’ or 10 seconds
• Speed Traps = 1/3 mile
• Other = 1/3 mile

AutoPower:

This feature automatically turns PASSPORT off if the vehicle has not moved for 4 hours. This is especially useful if your vehicle has a hot plug (12 volts all the time). See the Preferences section for details.

Auto mode No X setting.

In addition to adjusting sensitivity according to speed like the 9500I, the ix can be set to turn off X band in auto mode. City mode is nolonger an option.

NOTE: If your vehicle is moving less than 20 mph and you encounter a radar or laser signal, only a doubletone is used. However, the display meter will keep you informed of the signal strength until it has passed or until you reach a speed above 20 mph.

The 9500I & ix work off exactly the same platform so there radar performance should be exactly the same other than variance from RD to RD. The added features certainly can have advantages for some areas, especially for areas that have a lot of red light and fixed position speed cameras. Pus the AutoLock is an awesome advantage for the RD user that doesn't want to do all the thinking for the RD.

Escort also added the ability to delete Locked out locations and manually marked locations:

Clearing The Database

At some point you may want to clear all of
the data in PASSPORT’S database. This
includes all markers and your false alarm
locations. In order to do this, simply press
and hold the “SEN”, “BRT” and MUTE buttons at the same time. To confirm this
action, press the “GPS” button.

I've always enjoyed conducting research on anything I have been remotely interested in. Before the widespread use of the Internet, research was largely conducted in libaries, using (gasp) card catalogs, encyclopedias, newspapers, magazines, and microfiche. Time consuming, yes, but ultimately fulfilling, even if the duration was short lasting.

Now, research can be conducted largely by typing in a few keystrokes, and using the power of the Internet to search, catalog, and present information in the form of text, graphic, or video.

Advances in technology have brought the costs of previously esoteric items down to a price that mortals can afford - digital cameras, digital camcorders, computers/laptops, cellphones, and the list goes on and on.

This brings me to the subject of testing Radar Detectors and other related counter-measures. Why test them? In my case, it's for personal edification. I am interested in the workings - the how and why, but also, in the what. There is curiosity; proving to myself that something works, and not blindly following the say so of someone else. Your results may confirm those conducted by someone else or refute them entirely.

There is also an aspect of self-satisfaction, seeing something work well is very rewarding internally. Understanding why this is so, is even better. Changing some parameter such as mounting angle can have a profound effect on the way in which something works.

And that's what this hobby is all about.

I love a good cup of coffee. Going hand in hand with a good cup of coffee is the fine art of people watching. I find it particularly interesting to observe the actions and behaviors of people whilst enjoying a fine cup of Joe.

In the area of radar countermeasures, I would lovingly classify myself as having RSS or "Radar Savant Syndrome." Better yet, I suppose I am a RIS (Radar Idiot Savant). What is a RIS?

a) Well, they tend to be individuals who have an above average knowledge of radar and laser speed monitoring devices as used by LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers), perhaps even owning some of these devices for personal testing or their own edification.

b) They tend to enjoy traveling from point A to point B via car, motorcycle, RV, or commerical vehicle at generally higher than the PSL (posted speed limit).

c) They tend to own a RD (radar detector) or series of different radar detectors and/or laser countermeasures to assist them along their journey(s) from point A to point B. They might also own CB radios or shortwave radios to monitor the airwaves.

d) They tend to revel in detection distance, i.e., the amount of warning in either time or distance they were able to detect LEOs using speed monitoring devices.

e) They generally like to share their knowledge and experiences with other RIS's.

f) They enjoy and generally respect experimentation that benefits other RIS's.

Now as rare is this affliction is, I am glad to have found a place on the internet where others with RSS can socialize, converse, observe the behaviors of others similarly afflicted. This coffee house as it were, is RD.net ;)

I was driving on dark wet roads in a mountain community (lots of elk) and was going at or below the speed limit due to the dangers of the elk in the roads. A cop was facing the opposite direction and was 3 lanes over. I saw him and did not react in any way becasue I was not speeding. He did a U-turn and about 3/4 of a mile (2 lights and lots of other traffic) later pulled me over for going 16 miles over the speed limit. I told him there was no way that I was speeding but he would not listen. At the time I approached where he had been originally sitting an SUV passed me on my right going well over the speed limit. My husband was in the passenger seat and he said to be careful because he thought the SUV was going to cut me off. I can only think that he clocked either the SUV or someone else that was speeding. He clearly ticketed the wrong person, but how do I prove that? The cop insisted that he could not have made a mistake because he was using LIDAR. Can anybody provide me with what could cause an error using LIDAR?:confused:
