I found out that infact, the bpt can be swapped into my protege. Good news! I have wanted to do this swap for over a year, yet I didnt think that it could fit, but it can, so I am going to carry out the swap. My car is the 1995 mazda protege OBDII but not fully compliant. I was wondering if anyone (doubt it) has done/heard/knows about this swap, whats needed, anything I should know about, and any good places/parts. I live in washington, and I want to toss the 1.5L engine this thing comes with.
I have a garage (no lift, but have one at my dads shop) I can get ANY of the tools neccessary for the swap (father is a mechanic) so I mainly wanted to know what you guys think, and if you have tips. I mainly will need help with the ECU and transmission, but exhaust, piping, labor, etc is all free, or next to nothing. I have a 2.5" cat-back so I know my exhaust should be fine, MAYBE 3" later I can fab a downpipe no problem. I just want that BPT to run reliably in my protege before major mods. How much boost can it handle. I've heard it can handle 300hp reliably, before much else is needed, but I dont want to go that far, but maybe turn the boost up a hair. What kind of intercooler/transmission should I get? motor mounts? Thanks.
I do plan to toss the A/C in the proccess, as I never use it, and in washinton, it comes in handy 2 weeks of the year.
