On Wed the St. Louis Metro Area had 2 major thunderstorms with major wind , rain, lightining ect. Well after the first storm I decided to go for a drive after some of the water receeded and the strom blew further away. Large trees were down, small trees , branches, signs , some wires as well. I knew not to get close to down wires being that you always treat them as charged, so I thought I'd get in the car and take a drive to see what happened to the area. Not more than .2 miles away I see some water and decide that I can drive through it. I wouldn't dare go through rushing water or water that was high. Well I ended up going through high water anyway, problem being that the street my fiencee' lives on makes a large dip and traps rain water like a big bowl. Yup I didn't realize it and drove right in the middle of the puddle. My SRT-4 stalled after sucking the large amount of water up through the air intake on the bottom. I was like Bleep Bleep Bleep, WTF do I do now.
After trying and trying to start the car I couldn't get it started. After about an hour later my fiencee' calls and asks where I am. I have to tell her how stupid I was and what happened. I walk to her house and we go for a drive in her car a different way.... Anyway after comming back to my car I try to start it , get it to turn over but dies, try it a few mins later same thing. So we decide to go back to her house and let it dry out. After a few hours I decide to go back and give it a last try , I do and get it started . I start hearing this ping ping ping constantly but it ends up driving. I get to her house with this ping and think maybe it still needs to dry out and everything will be ok... Well that didint happen by the time we decided to take her, her kids, and I back to my house due to the fact that her power line was down in the back. We get in the car and drive with the ping. I get home and wait till the next morning, still pinging away when I start it up. I'M thinking crap! What do I do.
Well I had an oil change appointment Friday and decide to just drive it in then and see what they can find out. Well they look at it and don't see a problem with the outside of my engine and tell me it will take them a few days to look at the inside. I say that will be fine and end up having to get a rental car for $30.00 a day. A Gas sucking one at that.
After getting my other vehicle up and running I decided to just drop the rental back off and drive my truck back home. Well once I droped the rental off , I stop by the service desk at the dealer and ask if they found the problem yet, they say yes with a large frown. I say is it that bad he said YUP!. A bent piston and bent piston rod. I say WHAT? He said here and take a look... He grabs the piston from behind the counter and shows me the thing was bent like a " ) " they said they have NEVER seen anything like that before, I then ask if it's covered under warrenty and he says yes. OMG I was so so happy!
The story I told them was that I was driving through a rain storm and it started pinging. Now the service advisor asked the head mac. if the piston rod could have bent like that due to water lock. Then the head mac. said NO! if that was the case the engine would not have started and he would have been able to drive it here.
I can't belive I'M so lucky!
