Ok fellow car guys here it is...
On my way home from work tonight I was driving, and then all of the sudden, my check engine light comes on, and not 2 seconds later the car jerks (slows down abruptly, like the engine seized), -the engine makes a loud moan-, and then I push in the clutch and turn the car off.
I pull off the side of the road... and try to start it again, its like it just doesn't have enough battery... it doesnt 'click-click-click', but it turns the engine over for the most part just doesnt start... and in the dash (when the key is in the 'on' position, there is a 'click-ching-ping-ping-click' -weird- set of metallic/electronic motor type noises in the dash)...
So I open my hood (BTW its POORING out in New York tonight), and I check around... the battery connections are good... no strange smells (only the cell-phone light... so not much to see). I go sit back in the car... unplug my car audio-amp, and take my radio out. I try to start the car... VRMMMMM starts right up, sounds ok for about 1-2 seconds, then dies again. Now my gauges... specifically MPH and tach and winding up-down up-down just pinging back and forth... (the car is off... but in the 'on' position for all my accesories to work... as im 1/2 way in the road).
And now (inside) its starting to smell like a highlighter without a cap on it in the car... yes a highlighter, and all under the dash is still stirring with noise.
Anycase I get a tow home (my older brother happens to be driving by at the exact time...11:30PM in his jeep, and he calls my parents and gets them out there, I am like 3miles away from home)... but the odd part is all my electronics work fine... cig lighter... head unit, lights (interior and exterior)... no blown fuses as far as I could tell... remember cell phone light.
Well thats the story (a side note)... I do need to get my valve-guide-seals replaced, but the oil is at an acceptable level, and it seems like an electrical problem, also my gas is on 'E' but the light hasn't came on once, which is normally spot-on with its measuring that...
My car is a 1990 2.0FWD Eagle Talon (DSM production) Essentially the same car as the Mits. eclipse.
Any comments? Suggestions? Things to start out looking for?
