I didn't realize this was a super car. I was thinking something like a wrx not some crazy beast. Never mind about thinking about buying one of these. I thought it was just a normal car! oh well silly me
As SASaabr said... they are a rather 'normal' or 'average' car in stock form... but there is one thing that it is renowned for, a single word: Engine. You could throw nearly everything at them, and without changing the internals (for the most part).
SASaabr is refering to the fact they have been out for about half a century, and only recently in the 32,33,34's (GT-R's) have they become a real wow factor in the tuning community.

Yeah, they didn't like the newest prototype much either.
I found a site that sells them very cheap from Japan. I found a R33 for $3,500 usd, plus something like $51 shipping to California, its the legalization that gets ya.
I think they wanted a wee bit more than fifty bucks to ship it to the West Coast
In Canada a lot of companies do this, since if the car is over 15 years old, there isn't any legal stuff to do, just bring it in, have a provincial inspection done, get your plate and go for a ride. 15 year old cars in Japan are completely worthless and lots of kids here have wet dreams about '90 Skylines and Truenos and etc so there can be a nifty profit had easily.
