who would win?

A girl wants to "race" me via automobiles....

and while we probably won't, who would win on paper?

Car A- My Car

'97 toyota avalon 3 liter v6
with 200 HP @ 5,200 rpm; 214 ft lb @ 4,400 rpm
(obivously my actual horsepower applied at the wheels will be less)
Curb Weight Aprox 3300 lbs.

Car B- Her car

'99 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 liter v6
195 HP @ 4,600 rpm; 230 @ 3000 RPM
Curb Weight 4150 lbs.



Both cars are automatic, butd i'd be willing to Rec Shift it..... And my car has no extra weight and I' would not fill the tank the whole way up.

She'd probably have another person in the car, a full fuel tank and maybe some extra weight. Also, knowing her she'd slam on the gas and spin her tires, most likely.

Not sure on what the distance would be, but I could pretty much choose what ever I wanted.... ( Would i be better on acceleration and want a shorter distance or would my top speed even out and want a longer distance)

800 pounds more, 5 less hp..

But, she has more torque, so it would about even out..

It would be close, but you can launch on her.... Make sure to do this at the track, or 0-PSL in a large wide street.


Practice launching, hold the brakes, and give gas, just before the wheels spin... I can launch mine at about 2k and beat a large range... My 0-60 is 7.8 though...


You could also google for the 0-60 on each vehicle stock.

It would be a close race and it depends the speed you get up too.

My 6cyclinder jeep was faster to 70 than my volvo

Some of those Jeeps are quick. Oh wait, those are the 5.9 ones. Never mind. You may want to consider a rolling start, though that may favor the heavier car. For example, my car is slow from the start, but once I'm up to speed, I can keep up with quite a few cars. Don't ask me how I know this. :P

After doing some quick google-ing on 0-60 times...
Your car:8 secs
Her car: 9.1 secs

Don't really know how reliable these numbers are, but they seem about right. Hope that helps?

Id vote Avalon....... lighter on the go, the torques swing it to her direction.... BUT like you said she might burn out for a while, although ive never peeled out in an automatic FR... ever, I can launch my FF with little worry of this, but I find it more of a distraction than anything

you can take a full tank, thats compensated for by the other perosn that might be with her

if the race gets to some high speeds (>60MPH)shell fall back a good ways because that dumb jeep will generate a bunch more drag than your Toyota

and I just find it as dumb american car engineering that the jeep has a whole exra liter of combustion room and LESS power :roll:

oh yeah and just let the automatic shift for you, its alot smarter than you are because it is hooked up to the engine :wink:

My brother had a jeep, 4 liter v6 or v8, cant remember....

But it weighed close to 4 tons, and had around 285 hp.
His jeep could hold, and even beat in a 0-60 a Mercedes, 2 ton with a 280hp V8 (after 70 or 80, the Mercedes would take over)

Jeeps generate quite a large amount of power
