    Default Best Highway(s) To Speed

What are the best or your favorite highways in your state or anywhere else to take advantage of your lead foot?

Does anyone have a specific experience?

Most people do not know but the state of Oregon has its own version of the Autobahn known as Highway 395. I routinely visit Idaho to see my girlfriend and I hit it at a consistent 105 mph (hence, my avatar picture). Well, the speed limit is actually 55 but it is completely barren nonetheless and there are no cops.

There's quite a few places around here... but I'd rather not elaborate

Yeah, warning the Law of our favorite spots all in one convenient thread might not be a great idea.

Here's a couple of clips from the Rimutaka Hill Rd that I drive on pretty regularly. Speed limit 62mph plus margin of 10% before LEO's get annoyed. Steep, off camber, rough and exposed to the weather, plus big dropoffs on the right handers if you make a mistake.

No idea who the rider is but he's not very quick IMHO.

Alligator alley in Florida is awesome. When I lived down there I would always cruise at 100 the whole length of it.

well I-285 around ATL is known as the watermelon 500, you have to do atleast 85 to not get run over (PSL of 55), so i speed there alot lol. besides that, ill hit it a good bit on I-475 which goes around Macon, there are limited areas there they can sit on it to try and get you.

oh, and the drag strip isnt a bad place either

    Maryland.

When I drive from CLE to Maryland through the mountain stretches, you can really really move. Many times you'll be coming down a hill where you can see there are no cops around for miles... plenty of rabbits too.

I-20 between Atlanta and Birmingham is usually a good place to put the hammer down. Its a generally straight and wide open road with relatively few places for the cops to hide and there are almost always plenty of rabbits. You can do 80-85 without getting so much as a 2nd glance from most cops...they're after guys doing 90+.

    1. Nevada desert
    2. Eastern Montana
    3. North Dakota
    4. California desert

Places I've personally driven at some very serious speeds--safely, with no traffic, and a properly maintained car.
